Oxtar TCS EVO Replica RX Boots

A couple of months back I purchased a set of new boots to replace my Alpinestars S-MX boots that I'd used for several years. I found a good deal on a set I'd had my eye on, from a vendor with whom I'd had good experiences previously: Oxtar TCS Evo Replica RX Motorcycle Boots :: New Enough Motorcycle Apparel.

I read a good review of these boots (Motorcycle Daily), and decided to give them a shot. I've now had a chance to use them for a trackday and a couple of race weekends, and have some observations:
  • VERY comfortable - the most comfortable boots I've worn
  • The separate inner liner gives added security of keeping the boot secure to your foot, should there be a get-off
  • Unbelievably lightweight - absolutely featherlike
  • Stiff in the right places, flexing in the right places
  • White is distinctive - makes it easier for friends and family to spot me out on the track (but may be a challenge to keep looking good)
  • The sole is nice and stiff, so I don't have the same problem of the pegs digging a hole into the bottom of my boot (or hurting my feet) like they did with my previous boots
  • Titanium toe sliders are kind of cool, but expensive
  • The design of the toe slider is pretty stupid (see photo). When they grind down, the screw used to keep them in place gets ground down too, making it very difficult to replace them!??
Overall, I'm really happy with them, and I highly recommend them if you're looking for some new boots.

Couldn't agree more Whip, I LOVE mine, make my old sidis feel like crap.

Really light weight, GREAT grip on the soles and solid where they should be. For just over half price of the vertigo corsas you can't go wrong with these.

Re: Oxtar TCS EVO Replica RX Boots

Whip, talk a bit about the ankle support. I picked up a pair of Sidi Vertigo Corsa Airs because of the strong and beefy ankle support. However, I have found a problem with this Sidi boot. The support mechanism is external, and can, from time to time, get hung up on the rear-set heal guards. Very annoying, and I can envision a time and situation that it could cause me to crash. So I am thinking about a different pair of boots because of this "flaw".

Any insight you can give about your thoughts/feel with regard to the ankle bracing/support on the set you just picked up would be appreciated.

+1 gang. I like the titanium parts so I don't wreck another pair of Astars with the plastic slider.

+1 as well, although the SMX's were a little easier to walk in and put on.

I looked at those but didn't want titanium sliders. I figured it wouldn't be cool with some track orgs?

How do they compare on width with the Alpinestars?

No problems with tech inspections so far...

Hard to say since my A-Stars were a half size too big anyway. If anything I'd say the Oxtars are maybe just a bit narrower with the inner liner, but seem to fit my big feet just fine.

Re: Oxtar TCS EVO Replica RX Boots

So, Whip any insight/discussion about the ankle support? Is it beefy? Strong? Resistant to hyper-extension? I am thinking about retiring the Sidi's (for the reasons I stated above) and want to find another boot with similar heavy duty ankle support to the Sidi's but to have the mechanism internal so it doesn't hang up on the rearsets. So, any thoughts you have on that subject regarding your new Oxtars I would appreciate.

Thanks.

Yeah, I thought I posted that before, but looking above it's not there. Sorry about that.

Anyway, ankle support is excellent - very sturdy, but there is a very interesting sliding mechanism in a couple of locations on the boot, including above the ankle on the rear, that allow for stiff support, but still accommodate the need for flex and movement in just the right ways. They call it having controlled latitudinal and longitudinal torsion, to prevent ankle injuries.

Thanks Whip! That "sliding mechanism" will it get hung up on anything such as the rearset heel guard (like my Sidi's do)? Or is it internal or just in a place externally that won't cause hang-ups on the rearsets?

No hangups at all for me, and it doesn't seem like it's in a location that would present that issue at all.

Re: Oxtar TCS EVO Replica RX Boots

End-of-season update on these. I really liked them for the most part, but won't buy them again.
  • Titanium toe sliders were on back order for months. I couldn't find them anywhere. The plastic ones last about one race, compared to several for the titanium. (Yeah, I know, quit dragging my toes. Not easy at aggressive lean angles with size 12's)
  • The soles didn't hold up as well as I'd hoped. My Vortex rearsets on the 600 are pretty coarse, but by the end of the season there was a huge dent in the soles (almost a hole), especially on the right one. Not just a dent in the rubber, but in the hard plate under your foot, pushing up into it.
  • They lasted me about 25 days on the track, and they're done. I guess I would expect a little longer life from $250.00, but maybe that's normal.
  • They crash just fine. Great protection, light weight.
The Puma 1000's look pretty nice. I tried some on the other day, and they were very impressive, with very tough, thick soles, great ankle protection, and they're quite comfortable. $395.00 seems pretty steep, though, and I don't see the titanium toe sliders being readily available. I wish they came in white or red, as well.

Right now I've got my eye on some of the Alpinestars Supertechs. Not sure if the soles are quite tough enough, though.

Re: Oxtar TCS EVO Replica RX Boots

Same here, I have worn through the sole on both of my boots big enough to almost put a dime through.

Toe sliders is pretty much shot... my fault again.

Other than that they are DIRTY, but held up pretty good.

I had some SuperTech's (I think) a few years ago. They had the zipper that came up the back of the leg, and it was very hard to zip up. I blew out the zipper twice.

Currently I'm in the Teknic Speedstar boot and I've crashed them twice. Maybe they weren't crashes that test boots, but... I'd highly reccomend it. I think 395 is about the price once should pay for boots. A broken ankle is nothing I ever want to experience.

I'm finishing my second full season on them and they are still perfect; although I'll admit I haven't inspected the soles lately. I also have Vortex rear sets that have eaten two pairs of jeans.

These are the Supertechs - I think they have a side zipper, with a flap, like the Oxtars.
