Prayers for my uncle please

When it rains it pores

Got a call from my mom who just told me that my uncle has cancer in his mouth???

I never heard of that one before so I'm a little confuse. All I know is that they cut some muscles to get the cancer out but it's not looking good. He's in pain especially when he shew or swallow.

He just found out that he's going to be a grand father for the first time so we are hoping that keeps him going to fight this.

V~

Hope he improves fast and far.

As far as mouth cancer it is more common from people that chew tobacco though I am sure there is other causes.

Re: Prayers for my uncle please

I too am sorry to hear of this, V. He will be added to my prayer list.

The following is generic and does not refer directly to your uncle.

Any type of tissue (with the exception of teeth themselves, but including teeth forming tissue) can and has been associated with cancer. This includes epithelium, connective tissue, muscle (both smooth and striated), fat, nerves, blood vessels, salivary glands, bone and marrow, lymphoid (as in tonsil) and cartilage. I'm probably forgetting something but you get the idea.

Some of these are more common than others, and risk factors such as smoking or smokeless tobacco, alcohol consumption and genetics play a role as well. AIDS is associated with a sarcoma type of cancer that is usually found on the extremities but I've seen it in the mouth as well.

Metastatic cancer from a distant source can be found in the mouth too, so anything is possible except gender specific. Males can get breast cancer but not ovarian, and females cannot get prostate or testicular cancer, unless maybe they started as a male and had some body work.

So I guess basically anything is possible. Don't forget that many are very treatable.

I hope this clears up a thing or two. We'll be pulling for him. Family needs to give him all the support they can.

Thanks guys.

And thanks Maxib for the info... he was (hopefully he quit) a smoker so I can see where this could have been the cause of this
