Prayers please - cousin has leukemia

Hi all,

For all you practicing Christians, please send one up to our Heavenly Daddy for my cousin has just been diagnosed with leukemia. I'm not which type it is, I didn't ask too many questions yet....

His mother just finished going through her radiation treatments because she has breast cancer - so it's been a very trying time for my uncle and his family.

Thanks all!

Re: Prayers please - cousin has leukemia

Bummer, my cousin is still "getting over", or more specifically, her body is recovering from the successful treatment, of her leukemia after a marrow transplant.

It's a hell of a process, but medicine is amazing nowadays.

LTL, great know this. I've been googling about the disease all morning, but I'm medically ignorant, and don't understand most of what I read - but from what I understand, (another cousin has a PhD in cancer research of some sort), it's a very treatable form of cancer.

Still it doesn't hurt to pray. Thanks for your info. Hope your cousin is recovering quickly.

Re: Prayers please - cousin has leukemia

I hate to say it, but nothing is quick about it.

It will cost him a minimum of one year of his life. It also cost my cousin her marriage. (though it's arguable that was not a bad thing)

She's finally getting back to college, and her body is getting back to normal, but it is a very slow, and quite frankly agonizing process.

Nonetheless, she's still with us.

If you haven't read it, Armstrong's It's Not About the Bike was actually the best look I had at what she was going to go through with chemo.

Her family definitely found strength in prayer, and it is something that certainly helped them all out.

Prayer sent. If there is any good news it is that some cures are available rather than 0% chance you used to have. Hopefully he is on the list of types that can be cured.

thanks guys, means a lot to me that there's a caring virtual community that can post a word of encouragement when we need it. When things gets bad, I'll show him this thread and I'm sure there'll be a huge smile on his face.

Re: Prayers please - cousin has leukemia

just remember to be there for him. just visiting him will help him out tremendously.

my father should hopefully be home sometime the end of this week. he's been at a rehab hospital for about a week now and was in the regular hospital for 2 weeks prior following surgery to remove his lower esophagus and the tumor that was in it. he's doing pretty well so far and I can't wait to get him back.

I'll be in Chi town in 2 wks to see him.

Re: Prayers please - cousin has leukemia (false alarm!)

First thanks to all who have prayed for my cousin and family.

He was admitted Monday to a hospital, where they did a bone marrow biopsy just to confirm - and with great joy (and a little bit of blushy cheeks), Thank God that it came out negative.

He may have contracted a parasite in Afghanistan when he was over there on assignment couple months ago - but right now, he seems fine.

Thanks again all, and sorry for the false alarm (all the other doc before bone marrow biopsy said it was leukemia!)

I'd take that false alarm any day just so no one has to go through what that disease puts people through. seeing it first hand its worse than I even imagined.

Sorry

that is the best you could hope for. Be sure he gets the complete answer on the reason for a false alarm (even if it requires a independant second opinion). Cancer is best cured early so he needs to be 100% sure since the cost of these guys missing twice (declaring cancer then if they were wrong on the cancel) is so high.

Re: Prayers please - cousin has leukemia

Hi all,

I'm sad to report that the "false positive" has indeed turn to REAL positive. My cousin has been diagnosed with: Chronic Eosinophilic leukemia. The doctors report that there have been only 26 known reported cases in the US. However, there is a drug that will help.

So again, I once ask for your prayers....
