Texas kidnapping of FLDS

If the court ruled that the state improperly kidnapped the kids why should the parents have to sign jack?

Snag in deal to return Texas sect kids to parents

I don't agree with these people but this does seem like an extreme case of religious persecution. The state has produced a ton of innuendo (much has since been disproven) and taken EVERYONE's kids based on a false claim against a single member. I am not a fan of these folks and think that there might be an actual basis for separating them but if we allow them to do it based on a whim then who is next?

I think the "who's next" has been here. All it takes is "suspicion" these days to detain the parent and move kids to protective custody. In the case of child abuse, parents are guilty until proven innocent, which is why many won't even reprimand their children. In this case, with so many people and no records of who is who, I think it overwhelmed the system. I'm sure there are some involved who want to see the group crushed, but the system is already geared that way

Yep, in our medical law class we are taught that not only is it mandatory for us to report any suspected case of child abuse (I'm okay with that) but that if we "feel" it is warranted we can take the child right there, send them out the back door and call the cops. That to me is definitely a guilty until proven otherwise scenario.

True and it is the same way if a child gets accused, guilty until proven innocent.

That kind of thinking is what makes me glad I don't have kids. I cannot even imagine the bender I would go on if someone did that to my kids To say that the law should be called or that a parent needs to explain is fine but that is kidnapping by force in my opinion.

Oh and as an aside when I was small me and my brothers tended toward anarchy (bless my mom's heart). Well, a bit of carnage was a given. So one time we were chasing the cat around the basement and the cat went up over the couch for traction, to keep up I grabbed a lamp pole (one of those tacky 3 lamp on a spring loaded pole items for those old enough). Well I sprung it and it pogo'd me into the wall hard. So off to the doc where Mom told the truth. Seems they did not believe her and called the cops. So I am sitting there in the room and in comes the cop. He casually asks what happened (got to hand it to him on his technique). So I proceed to tell him all about chasing cats and lamps and good times.... By the time I got about half way in I could see he went about 3 shades of white in realization by the end I had him laughing. I didn't know the whole story until years later when Mom told me the other half. Now there was no harm done other than poor mom getting a scare because of her little monster, something that happened all to often But under your explanation Will I would have been kidnapped by the Doctors and cop. This would have terrified me and negatively altered my opinion of both for life, Mom would have been beside herself as would Dad (fantastic parents), lawyers would have been paid out of the money we did not have... Yep big improvement from the old way

That pretty much echoes my feelings.
