What are you

This is completely anonymous. You don't have to post. I'm just curious to see what the religious feel of the board is.

Re: What are you

Mormons are just as Christian as any others.
Catholics are as well. In fact, all the ones you label "traditional Christian" are nothing more than Catholic breakoff sects, so how are they more traditional?
Lame, biased poll.

No offense, but I knew that I was going to get this response, and I knew that you would be the one to ask. Call it intuition.

The reason that I listen them seperate was because of the difference in views between them all. Yes, they all claim to be Christian, but they all still have huge differences in what they believe. The reason that the Protestant religions are posted the way they are is because that is what most Americans see as being traditional.

I know you agree with me in there being differences by a large margin in what JW's and Mormons believe verses what Baptists, Methodists, Holiness, Pentecostal, Lutheran, etc.

Re: What are you

It is not a question I asked. It is a fact, period.
Just because you claim to have one slightly different belief in Christ doesn't make yours any more Christian than any other.
Your sect is a break off of the Catholics, which would be FAR more "traditional" Christian.
And JWs lumped with Mormons rather than Baptsts, Catholics, Methodists, etc.?
Just again proves your ignorance on others' beliefs.
Your "most Americans" claim may make you feel better, but it isn't necessarily true.
You may claim to be Christian, but I'd have to say my Christian beliefes are more traditional.
Again, biased.

Holy shit, where do you get your info on other religions anyway? The Cracker Jack box? Some pastor in some born again church that doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground?

And yes, you are VERY biased.

Re: What are you

How about this:

Do you believe in admittance to Heaven via acceptance of JC, the human form of God dying as a final sacrifice in lieu of the old covenant to attone for the sin of all of humankind upon their acceptance of said Truth? Do you take the leap of faith to believe in the Holy Trinity?

The rest is just details...

Couldn't agree more.

I still don't get why Holly Rollers love to toss veiled insults like that out (no matter their faith).

The Reformation churches are traditional?

I'd say Catholics would be much more "traditional" Christian, except that they aren't the majority here they are in say Spain or Italy.

I sent you a PM with a specific question. You took it wrong. Drop it. It's not Mormons that don't celebrate Birthdays, but rather Jehovah's Witnesses.

Put away the hostility. We can have a civilized debate.

Re: What are you

Atheist isn't a religion.

"A" meaning "absence", like Amoral, Asexual, Asymmetrical.

"Theist" from "theism" meaning "belief in the existence of God or Gods"

Not that any of that matters though... I'm a Scientologist. Hail Xenu.

This poll sucks.

To not believe is to have a belief in nothing. You are right, it's not a religion, but it is a belief.

Re: What are you

Why is not believing in God a belief?

It is, by definition, a lack of belief, as Phobe pointed out.

Some people really don't care where they came from or why. Being atheist doesn't mean you believe in evolution from single celled slime for example.

People are people and fall far short, regardless of religious belief or affiliations. And the "need" to not be "a bad guy" drives many to point fingers so that they feel better (a sign of insecurity issues). So I try not to assign human failures to the individual churches ... and all are guilty in their own way, or own level

I agree with the diagreement on the use of "traditional Christian" term. Might want to change that to "traditional Protestants", and it would be more fitting.

I also agree that the differences are in details that we generally should not be so focused on ... but within those differences, there are some big ones contained in the ones listed as "traditional Christian"

GT - you drive home a good point. I'll see if I can edit the poll to read Protestant Christian

OK - I can't change it or just don't know how. ND4SPD, can you change the wording in the poll to say Christian Protestant instead of Traditional Christian?

Re: What are you

Which would still leave the poll as biased. Making it read traditional Protestant would be more accurate.
Otherwise, you would have to change others to include the Christian wording.

Anyone who believes, as HD pointed out, that through the life, teachings and sacrifice of Jesus Christ one is admitted into heaven is a Christian.
Regardless of how much better one thinks they are due their specific beliefs.

Fantastic - Wiccans and Scientologists have their own category, but those who are the same religion as your messiah are "other?"

Yep, he did miss a big one, didn't he

BTW, if you want to get "technical" on the Christian ways to heaven, you must remember Christ was, is, and always will be of Jewish origin and there is a way to heaven through the Law. What Christians believe is that we as human beings are not living up to, and cannot live up to, the Law, and that God sent Jesus to the earth to die for our sins because we do fall short. There is still the Law, and you can still get to Heaven if you follow it ... and obey all of it. Oh, and if you have ever, EVER, uttered the Lord's name in vain, you FAIL .... or ever showed disrepect for your parents, you FAIL ... and those are on the short list (10 commandments)
