Re: What are you
For this poll to be truly all-inclusive, there should be an option for Global Warming.

Re: What are you
I have pondered this many times.... sometims I think that some people who make well in thier lives go to good places and other who do nothing but merely get by rot in a casket...
Dogs(and other pets) end up in the best places and we as people can only hope to end up in the same places as our pets... I know that it sounds bad, but I figure that if I can live a day the same as my dog I have lived a good day(and I don't mean by being able to lick myself) He never holds a grudge, is always in a good mood and is unconditional in the way that he loves anyone. I know that it sounds bad to compare my dogs "beleifs" to a major religious discussion but that is the way I feel... If I could be half the person my dog is I would be a better person for it...

Old thread but I'm a newbie, so sue me. I was mormon from birth. Did all the stuff mormons do; was a missionary in England for two years, married a mormon, went to church for 5 to 10 hours a week. Then I got in a wreck on my bike. I didn't get hurt too bad, only serious injury was a bad concussion that had my brain swollen and bleeding (I was wearing good gear except slacks and shoes; now I also wear boots and pants all the time). It healed itself, just took a couple months. I have no memory of the incident, probably a good thing for me and my desire to ride.
Anyway, the day before the accident we found out my wife was pregnant with our first kid. That combined with the wreck caused me to rethink my life a lot. I realized forcefully that life really is fragile (this was almost 4 years ago, I was 23) and not something to squander, way too much living to be done to spend it sitting in a church listening to lammos tell the same boring story over and over again. I never really believed all the mormon bs, but my life was good and I attributed it to living a "good" life, didn't feel the need to change. However, I didn't want my kid to do what I'd done; spend 10-20% of his time and money in a church, only because that's what I did, which I did only because my dad did etc, which everybody only does because of some con artist who concocted it all back in the 19th century. I quit going and quit faking a belief, and it was the most liberating decision of my life. I quit paying tithing and the only side effect was that I was 10% richer. I started having fun on Sundays instead of going to church and it felt like the week had an extra day added to it (mormons believe in "keeping the sabbath holy", which means not doing anything on Sundays that's not related to church, basically). Almost every aspect of my life was influenced by that sucky organization and I'm happier in every way that I'm not in it anymore, and very happy that my kids won't grow up with it hanging over their heads. imo, spirituality or devotion to a god is respectable, but all organized religion is bs. Just mind control, man control, extortion, mental abuse, big money-making tax-free business, bastard guys who would be dictators if they had the balls, but manipulate mostly humble people with "holy" books and "revelations" instead. I feel bad for people who submit themselves to it. Superstitious, mislead masochists. I have empathy too, because I used to be one of them. Now I worship the motorcycle gods, like everybody else on here. That would have been a good option for the poll...
