Still think electronics aren't the deal they are?

MOTOGP: Dovi: It's easier than my 250!, motorsport news, results, features, teams, drivers, updates

Quote:
"I found the RC212V easier to ride than my 250, the electronics control things very well,"
Quote:
"The electronics make a big difference. On every corner I can fully open the throttle and the traction control handles it – even on a bike with more than 100bhp more than my 250! If I did that on a 250 I would go flying in the air and it would hurt!" he smiled.

"I think that the electronics can be both good and bad, as sometimes I would like a bike that I could powerslide and perhaps one that would be a little more difficult to ride. The only difficulty I had today was coping with the engine braking system, the feeling is so much different to my 250cc two-stroke.
He is saying the same thing that Rossi has said, Mamola, Schwantz, and countless others. Roger Lee had similar comments when he rode the Kwacka.

That I should get some electronics on my 250, obviously.

So is there a point to this thread or should I delete it? We have enough derailed threads already...

I guess I'm dumb because I really don't know what your point is... That electronics make the bike easier to go fast on? Why don't you start a thread pointing out that water is wet?

Not really but some haven't wanted to admit the importance they play.

but why would a rookie saying it now mean anything to the people who didn't believe it in the first place when Rossi said it years ago when the 990 came out. need I remind you of his line about the 500 when comparing it to the 990 "FAAAAAAAAAACK"

As TB mentioned get your facts straight.

A quote of his from this year.

Quote:
MotoGP is getting like Formula1. With all the electronic aids, the rider can't make that much difference anymore. But I'm not going to retire. what the hell else would I do?(Valentino Rossi in Superbike Magazine)

Re: Still think electronics aren't the deal they are?

Technology makes our sport better.

We go faster and safer because of the ever advancing technology and human ingenuity. That is, in large part, what makes us human beings; to manipulate the environment around us to our will and to pass that knowledge on.

Those that bemoan the “end of the world” of motorcycle racing because of electronics, imho should advocate the roll back of the sport to its origins. Say, the late 19th century. We could race steam powered motorcycles, affixed with hard rubber non-inflatable tires, without suspension systems. Of course, our gear would be mining Levis or maybe some ¾ cotton knickers. Now THAT is hardcore racing at a whopping 4 mph down muddy-main street! Hooray!

Btw, Dovi was what 2.5 seconds behind the lead? 2.5 seconds in MotoGP may as well be 2.5 years. So, I guess electronics ain't the end all to be all. All human endeavors at the edge of our technology require skill from an elite group of people that possess that uncanny skill. Whether you’re flying modern fighter jets in combat, flying the Space Shuttle in outer space, or driving a Honda around a closed course.

Technology is your friend, human. Embrace it. It is who we are as a species.
