Good news - AMA races will be on prime time. Bad news - tape delay.

Soup :: Daytona 200 Live On Speed, '09 Races Tape-Delayed for Weekly TV Show :: 02-18-2009

I can't decide if this sucks or not. On one hand, it might bring new racing fans. On the other hand, the AMA has made a dog's breakfast out of the series.

    You decide..

Since I miss most races (I am out riding) this might make me watch more. Even during a track day you could go to the Mexican place and watch races after a day of riding (and drink the bars supply of JD if you are Seamus/DoubleDan )

on the one hand now I know when every race will be on. on the other hand who wants to sit in front of the tv on a Saturday night to watch the races? Sheep brings up I think possibly the one positive situation where you'd watch it. not sure how I feel about this but then again I still don't know what to think of the AMA series anyway and whether I want to watch it in the first place.

If I do not have to listen to Freddie and his bullshit speech about him being a 3 time world champion and how he did it, I am good to go.

This will work out great for me. I'm so busy during the week, and during the day on weekends, I miss 90% of everything bike related. (no DVR) I'm always home in front of the TV Saturday evenings though.

The AMA series used to be respected by the world. now not so much. I mean shouldn't Maladin have moved to SBK a long time ago instead of milking the AMA series?

I am glad they are trying and hope people watch. I have to admit i always DVr the races when it doesn't rain. I will just have to avoid reading the results on the many sites that i read everyday. I also hope the cracker style cometary will change to more exciting SBK Motogp style Brit style cometary. Why not put sir charles in the comentary seat? or for that mater jordan or majic. get some life into it. who cares if they know much about biking just make it feel exciting!

Well, with tape delay lets hope they don't cut away from the race for commercials (and even if they do, they can cut back in right where they left off).

How about WSBK? Anyone have an alternative to Racing Underground?

One thing that might be possible with a delayed race is that it actually gets produced. You could run multiple cameras and edit them together. Not sure how you would announce that (maybe keep the results from your announcers). It would be great but I cannot see them doing it.

Eh, I'm not so stoked about this. Falls in the same category as DMG announcing that the teams own the numbers and not the riders. ghey.

The competition on AMA Pro Prime Time will include 39 races from both the AMA Pro American Superbike and AMA Pro Daytona SportBike classes that will air within a week or two of the actual events throughout the season.

Now you will be able to listen in on Miladin yelling at Yates to get out of his way on a radio.

Sweet. DMG, you are made of FAIL.

When will it be understood that motorcycle races fans ARE NOT the same as NASCAR fans and their formula isn't necessarily one of success for us?

Right about the same time that motorcycle roadracing fans realize that we're such a small piece of the motorsports market in this country that we're lucky to get anything televised at all - So when we bitch bitterly at what (or who) they're giving us it probably doesn't help our cause a lot.

IDK, that's kind of a "yes, mass'a" way of looking at it (although probably true). But hell, without bitching, would we even be Americans? LOL. Anyway, 2 week tape delay is utterly retarded no matter how anyone slices it. And the NASBIKE radio stuff? Meh, I'll give it a wait and see approach.

True with caveat: without the bitching, they'll never know how many of us there really are.

Doesn't affect me. I canceled my satellite subscription last weekend. Good thing too... I won't have to suffer through the NASCAR'ization of the AMA.

It’s kind of odd really. Back when I use to race dirt the races were almost never televised, and street was always on. Now road racing is becoming a cluster%#@! and supercross is on every Sunday the week after.

On the bright side, at least it’s still on, and I’m actually home to watch it.

If I can manage to stay awake until midnight..
