This is great news and hopefully attracts more fans to the Supermoto Races.

If he was going for the grand slam, what the hell, that'd be worthy. Honda and his sponsors would get their money's worth out of that. He's not really in a title fight anyway.

But a silly motard race at the X-Games?

Well, that's the key. Honda might not let Dani do such a thing. But I think it's clear Nicky's days at Honda are numbered; he appears to be just biding time until the season is over.

If Nicky got hurt or something, it might save Honda a bunch of money by not having to field two bikes...or maybe they'd be able to get an upcoming rider some seat time.

I dunno...just thinking aloud here. Is this just way off base?

LOL some HRC mechanic is loosening all the bolts on the bike as we speak. Nicky better bring his own locktight just in case. Remember when Stoner was saying that from practice to the race you never knew what hrc had done to the bike.......

It may be stupid from our perspective seeing as how he's a MotoGP racer, but maybe the guy just really wants to race supermoto...maybe that's something that he's really passionate about. And to that, I say go for it!

He may race MotoGP but the rest of the guys on the field don't. I wonder how many of them are gonna try to outdo him for bragging rights?

You think when he and Rog and Tommy race in Kentucky on the dirt track or motocross track they aren't competing with each other at about 99%?

I recall Ben Bostrom did the Supermoto thing fairly successfully a few years ago when his WSBK career was imploding.

I'd like to think that's quite a bit different - they're brothers and I'm sure they look out for each other far more than anybody else would.

They said Nicky qualified last but I'm going to watch because I love the X-Games. RC won step up last night, and the miracle boy (Dave Mirra) got silver on the mega-ramp. It's in HD in just over an hour on ABC.

So what are the chances Nicky is doing this as a publicity stunt to gain some fans?

No spoiler if you haven't watched it yet. I'll just say: S-I-C-K.

They showed a small clip of the qualification, about 7 seconds. Nicky didn't really look like he was moving about comfortably.

Nicky won't be racing today. Announcers said he found the track too tough and will only be spectating. They also said he hurt his ankle.

Mirra is pretty astounding. He's 34 or 35 and still very competitive.

I'm just glad BMX is still around - I've loved the sport since I was 12.

"Hopefully I'll be fit for Brno. I didn't crash, I just landed wrong. I'm not sure if my foot came off the ?peg or what, but it feels pretty fragile. I'm pretty bummed out about it because I want to get out there and finish this season strong. Also, I can't wait to try out the new surface at Brno. The last couple of years the surface has gotten quite old, not really bumpy but just so abrasive and cracked, so I think with a brand new surface the track is going to be awesome. I heard they didn't just reseal it, or just put something on top, they did it the right way and started over. That's going to be crucial for tyre wear, so we'll probably have a bigger range of tyres than we normally do, both front and rear, to make sure we've got something. Brno is quite fast and open. It'll be the first time we've taken this new bike - with the pneumatic valves - to any place where we can really stretch its legs and see what she's really got. Brno's got a little bit of everything, it's not the kind of track where you can just set up the bike for just one thing. Good traction is certainly important to get off those corners good because there's a few big straightaways, especially the uphill run to the final left and right. You also need something that's stable on the brakes, because there's a lot of hard braking."

I'm impressed at how many of the BMX and skateboard guys are mid 30s and still winning.
And speaking of SuMo, how old is Jeff Ward now? He's been around (and winning) forever!
