Hayden kicking around Ducati?

Soup :: SouperPoll

Sure, it's just rumor talk but interesting, nonetheless. Of course, such a move is no "slam dunk" for Nicky. Hell, only Stoner has proven that the Ducati can be ridden (The other haven't been able to give results. Capirossi couldn't. Elias can't. And neither can Marco or Guintoli. They all stink on that bike).

Then again, HRC has no real love for Nicky so perhaps a move in his future is best notwithstanding the risks of switching to such a touchy machine.

Amen to that! The more I learned that HRC designed that RC212V for Dani F-ing Pod-bot Pedrosa, the less I was on board with it.

While I'm a loyal Honda guy, I wouldn't mind seeing Nicky on the GP09...

Just saw this on Soup:

An interview with Ducati MotoGP Team Manager Livio Suppo

Q Can we talk about the Nicky Hayden to Ducati rumors?
A With Nicky, if you want, we can talk. We like Nicky. At the moment for 2009, we have a contract with Marco, so we cannot speak with anybody at the moment.
Q So none of it is true?
A No. If you say that Nicky could be potentially interesting for Ducati, that is correct. But at the moment, there's nothing more. Because we have a rider on board. We have two years with him, and the first goal is to try to have Marco happy with the bike.

Soup :: SuperBikePlanet.com Interview: Ducati MotoGP Team Manager Livio Suppo :: 06-19-2008

So either what we are hearing are just that - rumors ... OR Ducati and the team manager are contractually obligated not to talk about it. If I were a betting man, I would plunk money down on the latter, especially given that Marco's contract undoubtedly has some performance clauses in it. And since he's been sucking hind tit this season, I would be hard pressed to see him continue on the Duc ...

Melandri has a contract ..... But I bet it has a performance clause in it.

I think the fact that they have Sete testing the bike should tell us something about Melandri's job security.

Ducati for 2008
Team Marboro
Casey Stoner
Marco Melandri

Team Alice
Toni Elias
Sylvain Guintoli

Ducati 2009
Team Marboro
Casey Stoner
Toni Elias

Team Alice
Nicky Hayden
Sete Gibernau

The only Problem with this is that there would not be an Italian Rider, What are the odds that Ducati starts a Third Team

Nicky is still a former word champion. I can't see him on the B Ducati squad.

So is Casey. I can't see them putting two world champions on the same team.

If that was the case Robert Jr. would still have a ride

Why not, stack the team where both riders can get up front and help each other out. Look at what Suzuki has done with MM and Spies............

What team would he like best?

Marboro on Bridgestones Position #2 or Alice on Michelins Position #1

All we know is that we know nothing and this year's silly season is not only early but running wild.

Two World Champions on one team would be unprecedented, but were there a team to pull that, I think Ducati in their unconventional thinking would do just that.

Seeing Gibernau back in MotoGP would be terrific as no matter where he went, he would do that team a lot of good. I mean, just look at what he did for the Telefonica Movistar Honda Satellite Team? It was the B squad and he gave Rossi and others some hell!

As for Ducati running an Italian, I don't know ... Marlboro is so restricted in their name plate, that it doesn't matter. Though if you look at most other prominent teams in MotoGP and WSBK, they try to have a rider that fulfills both their teams country of origin AND the manufacturers country. By that line of thinking, Ducati would have no Italians ... so it is tough to tell.

Like I said earlier, I would love to see Stoner and Hayden out front on the same bikes. But here's to hoping ...

Sete finished off his testing on the Duc. He was pretty fast too. Soup :: Gibernau Finishes Test On Ducati MotoGP Bike :: 06-19-2008

I like the subtitle of the article. "bayliss + Superbike =1:52.8. gibernau + GP bike = 1:51.7"

I suppose it's possible, I just don't think it's likely. If I had to put two world champions on the same team it would be Casey & Nicky. Neither of them have an ego and I can actually see them working together well up to a certain point. Ducati wouldn't even have to put an extra garage between the two.*

*I say that jokingly as Yamaha's reason for doing so was because of the two different tire manufacturers.

Zactly. I don't care who you are, you always want to best people you can get. Even if Duc doens't think Nicky's likely to win another championship...hell, they didn't expect Stoner to either.

Elias is a Spaniard, and has been clueless on the satellite Ducati this year. No way he'd get the ride over Hayden at this point, IMO.

stoner - former dirt tracker who has won handily on the ducati with a big horsepower point and shoot riding style.

hayden - former dirt tracker who has also won with a big horsepower point and shoot riding style.

Seems like a good match to me. All of the other 250 style riders haven't done too much of the ducati this year (or last).

It's only half the equation. Stoner also spent more time on 250's the Nicky. Stoner later in his career, and Nicky earlier.

while true, he also crashed a lot in 250s and got his ass handed to him by podbot, et al...

my whole point was 250 pedigree riders haven't performed the best on the present ducati, of which stoner and hayden can't really be characterized as.

Capirex? What about him? I see your point of course. I'm just more inclined to think that the Duc is finiky, and Stoner and his crew are the only ones that have been able to make heads or tails of it.

Bayliss was an anomoly.
