Yeah, that was the 2009 contract confirmation split. I'm wondering if he is DONE DONE for '08 and that Sete to jump in now mid-season? And if so what happens in '09 to Sete if Ducati did, indeed, sign Nicky.

BLAH, the suspense is killing me!!!

I just can't wait to hear Earl pronounce desmosedici.

New issue of Cycle News says they're in negotiations, and that it should be announced around Brno.

I like Nicky on the Duc. Give him a chance to blow Pedrosa away next year. Like someone pointed out earlier, the bike suits his style a little more. Balls out exiting the corners! He just needs to go back to riding like he did the liter bikes.

If in fact this is true, and Hayden does try to be the next to tame the Duc, what do you think the transition will be like? I realize that it's not going to be smooth sailing right off the bat, but I have to believe that with the increased power, 'Stone tires, and a trick electronics package he should do as well or better than his effort thus far on the o8 RC212V.

Yeah, seems like the GP8 is pretty user-specific since only Stoner has been able to anything much on it. Nicky is motivated and has the riding style though, and Ducati will help him (they must have some geniuses working for them to be stomping Honda and Yamaha), way more than Honda did for sure. I think he'll kick ass. If it happens (more like when it happens) I bet it'll be Haystack, Stoner, Rossi and Pedrofag duking it out next year. 4 great riders on good bikes they like would make an awesome season.

That is the hope! Pretty awesome to have a 3 bike show going on. Pretty cool if 4 were battling! And hell, if Lorenzo chills out and gets back into the grove he had during the first 3 races, we could even see 5 bikes/riders battling next year!!! Wow.

(A boy can dream, can't he?)

And there is the difference. Ducati will be willing to work with Nicky because they want both of their riders to do well. Honda might have money to burn but I doubt Ducati is at that point yet.

In all honesty, Melandri was a respectable rider on the 990's and was very proficient at sliding that RCV around, especially in the rain. There's no guarantee that Nicky will be able to make the adjustment to the Duc.

Marco even speaks Italian !

Flame me if you want, but mark my words. Hayden on the Duc next year will only place 4th or 5th. I wish he could ruleth roost but he will not. Beside, I think Duc is looking for a top five rider that will help them get the Team Championship as well as the Rider. Right now the Rossi-Lorenzo Combo is hard to beat.

2009
The following Rider if healthy will place higher than Nicky

Stoner
Rossi
Pedrosa
Lorenzo

Cheers

I think that's accurate. They want Nicky b/c he's good enough and highly marketable in the US.

Yep, therein lies the risk. But honestly, where could he go? Honda has given him two years of "f*ck you, ride second chair to the Pod". And Kawi? Jesus, that bike just sucks right? So, his only option is really to give a Ducati a shot. If that doesn't work. Probably the end of the road for the Kid in GP.

Yep, exactly. If Nicky is consistent top 5, they will hold him to sell those bikes over here. North America, while a lame race culture, sells the shit out of sportbikes. In fact, just him finishing regularly top five would be a helluva feat. Have we even seen a Ducati place 5th (even once? or at best more than a couple times?) in the last two years that wasn't Stoner? Honestly, if so, it couldn't have happened too many times, or my memory really sucks.

Well also remember that the TC debacle will be voted on soon and if it goes away Hayden's chances for victories go way up.

I want a Duc. If Nicky is riding a Duc next year, I'll want one worse.

I think that says something.

100% Agree.

BTW - Did you read my 848 test ride review? It probably won't help your case of the Duc wants.

I skimmed it. It's on my todo list to go back and read it. I've been a little distracted lately.

So why couldn't Ducati put Hayden on a bike with less traction control and let Stoner have all the goodies? Best of both worlds, no?

Because the only way to get the fast lap times on the Duc is to ride it on the absolute edge and have the TC bail you out. Every lap @ Laguna, Stoner was whacking it WFO to the stop before the apex.
