Smaller and faster - 800 to 990

The Official MotoGP Website

This has been hashed in a few threads now and know it has been somewhat proven. The 800cc Motogp bikes are faster. (Explained in link above)

Would making the 990 heavier been safer?

I think the new format benefits the larger factories, because they have more money to dump into the racing programs. This is clear with KR's comments about his team.

The one thing the 800cc bike will do is make for some even more exciting racing. i.e. Later Braking, Faster Corners and getting on the gas earlier.

Not in my opinion. Making them heavier would just turn them into even more unwieldy beasts. I think the only way to slow them down is to have a combination minimum weight/maximum HP formula, but then we'd be watching two-wheeled NASCRAP.

I wonder if it will actually provide the great racing that we're all hoping for. Formula One cars used to be fun to watch until they all got so optimized that no one could outbrake each other anymore. Too much technology ruined that series.

Well, until F1 stepped in and changed the rules abruptly to purposely neuter the Ferraris a couple years ago. That season saw a bunch of on-track action, and last year wasn't all that bad either.
Breaking up the Ferrari/Schumi dynasty really pissed me off, but it has turned out for the best for F1 in general.
This season may actually be one of the more competitive yet.

Take away traction contol, carbon-carbon brakes, autoshifting, and all those buttons amd watch the fun.

Well yeah, but if I wanted to watch a crash-fest, I'd turn on NASCAR at some point during their four hour broadcast.

OK, so you'd have to tell the drivers you were doing it first..
