So the "Daytona Superbike" becomes the "premier" class but it includes 600s to 1200s? And the "LiterBike", while a 1000cc class, isn't the "premier" class?
Hmmmmm... |

I agree that Suzuki needs to be knocked off of their highhorse in superbike, but to eliminate the 1000 all together is asinine.
the 600'sare fairly equal between the big 4, so the racing will be closer. But that is not what people want to see, nor what the mfg's want to sell. That is why they dump millions of $$ into racing. Daytona (whatever they wat to call it) wants to make bike racing just like nascrap. But I doubt that is going to happen like they planned.

Think about it for a minute. If they do have this "LiterBike" class, (which is essentially 2009 Superbike 1000cc rules), obviously while it won't be the named "premier" class, the reality is with the power and lap times they will be turning it will be the de facto premier class; as that Daytona Superbike "premier" class ranging from 600s to 1200s will be HP and weight restricted, I can't see how they would be faster around the track than than a true "LiterBike" class. And, I'm pretty sure "premier" as it is defined in the English language essentially means first in rank or time. We shall see how it actually turns out... |

Premier, means the class who will get the most air time on speed channel.

I wonder how the manufacturers will deal with this? AMA and WSB for the mostpart complemented each other allowing manufacturers to create a bike that meets both sets of rules. I wonder if AMA will get ignored by the manufacturers now?

I think I'm going to reserve judgment until I see some more of the details.
Something's just "not right". There has to be more to the story as I don't think DMG would have just changed all the rules in a few weeks without some measured thought as to how the manufacturers would react.

This is just another AMA fiasco. I hope the the big 4 drop out and start or support another series. They went to Cal. and met with the big 4 and told them how it's going to be. The superbike/supersport formula works in every series through out the world and it can work here. They are trying to fix the wrong problem. I'm done with AMA from here on out.

Seamus would have to ride RS125 just to stay in the running, and CBRVFR could ride a Rocket Three.

Either way, I want to see the RS125 vs. The Rocket III. That would be AMAtastic! |

More about the new rules...
Soup :: Rules "Snapshot" For Daytona Superbike Class :: 05-26-2008 edit: odd, both the GSXR600 AND the GSXR750 are eligible. And yet they are trying to get away from the Suzuki Cup they have now? |

Damn, looks like another type of racing i will probably stop watching. Ditched Nascar as it got utterly stupid, and now the AMA racing is going to hell.
All that's left is WSB, MotoGP, AMA Prostar Drag racing(till they fuck it up to) and motocross/supercross/arenacross. Oh the horror of allowing stupid people to take over these once great organizations.
