Jesse Helms checks out.

I've tried to think of something good to say about the 86 year old racist Senator. Some of the people here are complimentary, but as far as I'm concerned, he bears out the Louis Black quote: "The good die young, but PRICKS live FOREVER."

Are you listening, Robert Byrd?

This Guardian obituary is a hoot, not even damned with feint praise

Obituary: Jesse Helms | World news | guardian.co.uk

Quote:
"nothing Jesse Helms did in his entire career will enhance America's national security more than his retirement."

Robert Pastor

And from CBRVFR's link:

Quote:
"Jesse Helms was a kind, decent, and humble man and a passionate defender of what he called "the Miracle of America." So it is fitting that this great patriot ............."

President George Bush
You've really have to laugh.

In this polarized political world you are either a hero or a goat - it just depends on who tells the story.

Growing up as a North Carolinian, I knew much about Senator Helms and his contributions to my home state and nation.

The more I was reading the more I could already tell. There is always two sides to a story. Some of the things he stood for I can agree with. Again it would all come down to execution.
