I just covered "round table type discussion" event with Michelle Obama and Gov. Jeanne Shaheen in Manchester today.
I'd say that 95% of the public in attendance were middle/late aged, caucasian women.

Several started talking to me about the SCOTUS decision made today and were surprised when I said I hadn't heard (go figure...I'd been working all morning).

LTL, you would have had an aneurysm right there on the spot. (it took quite a bit for me to respond without speaking my personal views)... They were ok with the idea about owning a gun for hunting purposes but thought that owning a gun for self-defense was a very bad idea. (This is all true...I'm not kidding in the slightest.)
"Who's to say what 'self-defense' really is?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, if some psycho (their word not mine) goes out and starts killing people he could just say it was in self-defense! It's just a really bad idea for people to be able to use guns to defend themselves."
The short-lived conversation got worse from there.

They're not bad people, but they need to understand the history a bit better. I doubt they're even aware of where the hunting argument came from, they're just repeating it.

The second amendment has nothing to do with hunting. Today's decision was pretty clear about that for those that didn't understand it before. I expect the banners to leave that divisive tactic behind for good as it is now dead.

With the Heller and 1939 Miller decisions we have a pretty good foundation for what I think is the proper interpretation of the amendment.

People with these types of beliefs are going to have the aneurysm, once we continue the discussion about what this all really means. Let's do an example. Say they want to ban an AR-15, pure evil of course, at the federal level, with the two key gun cases. Clinton gun ban part II.

Heller: We have a fundamental right to KEEP and BEAR arms. The government may however, license them.

Miller: The second amendment affords protection only to weapons with military application.

So, is an AR-15 an arm? Check, so we can have it, and because we can bear it, we can have it in an operational condition. Does a magazine fed rifle, in a military caliber, patterned after the current military standard issue weapon, have military application? Check.

Guess what, banning that gun from civilian ownership as a whole IS NOT PERMISSIBLE.

Obama and his buddies will not be able to pass an AWB. I personally think this decision could ultimately help Obama, as this decision will make it easier for gun owners to vote for him, but he'll have to keep his anti-gun rhetoric toned down, and especially that of the Feinsteins, Pelosis and Michelles.

The ironic part...all of these anti-gun defense people were surrounded by people with....guns.

Yeah....I wanted to ask them what they would do if they were attacked but I thought it would lead to trouble and left well enough alone.

They would not be defending themselves. A gun does not change a victim mentality.

The law 'says', in every state what/where self defense 'is'... How could a governor and a potential first lady (who is elbows deep in law) not know this?

No....Women in the public audience were saying this, not the Gov or Mrs. Obama. Sorry.

Not surprising. I once heard a conversation between two of our reserve officers and a high ranking Canadian officer during a lull in activity. The Canadian was like those women... our reserve officers were from Alaska and North Dakota... I moved back just in case there was going to be blood spatter

Sounds like he's read your posts and is doing the smartest thing he can do at the moment.

I've heard most of this a long time ago. Weather he tries to take our guns away or not, I will still own them AND carry them. If it means we go into urban warfare against our own countrymen then so be it. Ain't gonna happen...and thankfully there are several other people that feel the same.

I'm seriously so pissed about this I can't sleep. Not that I'm a huge fan of McCain either, but I can't believe there are people voting for the idiot.

Easy Beavis. Washington can have an impact but you and your family determine your success not them. Be sure to vote and negate CBRVFR though

I don't know how to break this to you, but "he" can't take your guns away. This isn't a monarchy. And to believe that the second amendment is only supported by one political party is not precisely accurate.

Mainly because I don't vote on one issue. While 2nd ammendment right are important, I really do not feel very threatened by an Obama administration, especially when I am living in California.

LTL and I were discussing this a while back, and he brought up an interview with President Clinton where he pretty much blames the Democrat's loss of congress in the 1990s to the Assault Weapons Ban.

If there is something pretty much every politician cares about, it's staying in office and therefore in power. If they tried to re-authorize the assault we
