Bill# S.2191: America's Climate Security Act of 2007

It's not looking like it will pass through the Senate, and even if it does, Bush has promised a veto...but what say ye?

Should this bill pass, should it fail, or should it wait until the Dems control the executive...

Note, there are options there to oppose/support the bill on the website.

Strongly oppose. I do not support Cap and Trade programs, especially for such a dark art as "carbon marketing".

We already have such a thing in California.

Industry can buy old cars and crush them rather than fix their plants. AKA, credit trading.

I know people who've made a pile of money selling junk cars, which are not on the road polluting anyway, for emissions credits. Of course, the dirty factories just keep on chugging.

In the current politically charged environment around this topic, I think any legislation such as this is more likely to do more long-term harm than help.

EDIT: Also, just the stupid, asinine, bullshit fucking name of this bill means under no circumstances would I ever support it.

Communism and central control at its finest. Of course we should all submit to the wisdom in DC.

Who else can do such a thing though?

I am certainly a proponent of clean air, clean water and conservation.

Carbon tax will not do that in ANY way. What it will do is allow a bureaucrat to determine which business gets to do how much and at what cost.

I am all for good environment but to provide an example of how stupid the 'environmentalist' movement has become check into Smoky Mountain National Park. Yep high ozone there.... ummm it was called the SMOKY mountains long before cars Further there is pine trees that contribute to ozone. That and FAR worse is what is going on. This is NOT about clean environment it is about centralized control of YOUR freedom (in other words TAKING your freedom)
