Fender Eliminator Kit or Undertail Kit?
Ok boyzzz (and Frenchie) ........
The guy who owned my bike before me was evidently a lazy person with no money to spend on his bike. I ought to know as I bought the bike as a repo and he was over a year behind on his DMV fees. Loser......
Anyway, he decided he wanted to eliminate his fender without spending a penny. He proceeded to chop the reflectors and the fender / license plate bracket off with a dremel. It looks half-ass from a distance and terrible from close up.
So....I bought a fender eliminator kit a few days ago. Last night I decided to prepare for the installation by reading the installation guide. Listen - I'm pretty good with tools and I can figure most things out, but this damn guide had 23 steps and required a cut here, cut there, splice here, splice there. Mixed with my A.D.D. - this would be a disaster. I then started looking into Undertail kits. I really like the Hot Bodies Undertail Kit. It's more expensive than the Comp. Werks Fender Eliminator Kit I bought, but it looks nicer (I.M.O.) and it has 4 steps compared to 23.
If I were in your shoes I'd buy the undertal kit and relocate my tag to one of the chopper style sideway mounted swingarm brackets. You can pick them up on ebay pretty cheap and IMO they look pretty good
What's funny is on your '03 and my '02 there is no need for any aftermarket parts.
The stock undertail is fine, and the only thing you have to do is remove the rear plate light, mudflap (which you immediately trash), and blinkers.
Take a thin piece of aluminum, bend to your preference with a vice, punch 3 holes in the top (1 for main bolt, 2 for the stock plate light), then put it all back together (I used aftermarket led blinkers $14.99) alum. plate, bolt, plate light, 2 screws, and done.
I guess the guy previous cut the plastic indent off, which could screw up everything. Just wanted to post this so people aren't under the impression you have to pay $100-$200 for an undertail for the same results.

Scout - do you have OEM paint on the undertail? It looks like you do from the picture.

That's the difference. The dude that owned the bike befire I did really screwed it up. I'll take a picture and post it for you guys to see. Then you'll understand what I am talking about. The undertail would clean that up real nicely.

Very nice, Scout!
Looks quite "sanitary"!

Ok Boys and girls.....here is the HotBodies Undertail Kit after installation. HUGE improvement! The photos don't do it justice. They make it look a little cock-eyed. It's not....as anal as I am...I took measurements more than a few times!!
