Tire Warmers
Well, it came to my surprise that a set of Chicken Hawk Racing tire warmers came to my house UPS ( I think they are a little late )
I don't know much about tire warmers so What do you think... about the chiken Hawk, about tire warmers, about the all thing.
Thanks
V~

Re: Tire Warmers
No need for them on trackdays. Racing is another story, when you have to go balls out into the first turn.

So....... take the money and run? I mean the receipt was inside and you are talking like $600.
What if I use slicks?

Re: Tire Warmers
I have not used slicks before, but again for trackdays they are not an absolute necessity. Red Rider I know runs slicks and does not run warmers.

This didn't come out of my wallet so that's why I was asking...

I sure like them, even at trackdays, for extra confidence, especially in cooler conditions.

Are you guys back from your Honeymoon already? Hi Bwhip. hope you guys had fun.
That's one thing people had told me...one less thing to worry about. Not sure what will happen with me this year (Spencer will tell) but one less thing to buy later?
If all works well, my first track will be with Team Chicago at Grattan around the 1st week of April.

We're still out at sea, but lots of resting and relaxing time out here, including (expensive) internet.

Re: Tire Warmers
Slicks warm up quickly. Ask Abtech and BDA about the possibility of shortening the life of your tires by overcooking them .If I recall from an earlier conversation, the best way to use them on a warm track day is to use them to heat the tires for the first session and just use them as a blanket for the rest of the day.
That's second hand info, though.

Re: Tire Warmers
I got some CHR units for Christmas as well. They're adjustable, with 3 different temps. I figure if having warm tires saves me from even 1 cold tire crash they'll have paid for themselves. Of course now I need a generator.

It is also very CORRECT info. Tire warmers are looked at with some sort of reverence. What usually happens is a rider leaves his fresh, new rubber in tire warmers all day and literally cooks them making them useless.
The current crop of DOT's warm up so quickly that tire warmers really aren't needed, especially in summer time.

I've been running slicks without warmers for a long time. Just make sure to go easy the first few laps.
At this point in my life, nap time is more important than lap time...

Re: Tire Warmers
For the amount of track days you plan on doing, and the temps you'll be doing them in, I'd keep them if you can afford to. The only thing now is you'll have to get a generator or hassle with finding electricity when you get to the track(s).

Re: Tire Warmers
When used properly they can make arace tire last longer. Pretty much worthless for todays street tires, if you did not live in Michigan where its been known to snow at trackdays.
A few years ago if you used Michelins you had to have them or the first 5 laps or so the tire would not warm up but they have changed since then.
I used some old Michelin race (still had sticker on them but they were not new) last year (the fact that they were old did not help) but on cold days they took for ever to warm up.

Oh and if you decide to get rid of them let me know I think I know some Motard guys that are looking.

I got a set but figure I will only use them in spring and fall. In summer things heat pretty fast down here

I have yet to see this actually happen. People who come in off the track and slap the warmers back on between sessions over and over usually end up cooking the tires instead of making them last longer.
The theory of reducing heat cycles is pretty much negated by the process of baking all of the oils out of them by keeping them hot much longer than they were designed for.
I have seen brand new hot tires get greasy in 8 laps, keeping them hot all day long takes them way past their prime . . .

Now in stereo
Visionaries say "Yes, we can."
Engineers say "Not so fast."
and Seamus is awesome

What about the comment on warming them at the start then using them as blankets?

Re: Tire Warmers
Thats where a nice adjustable outlet comes in handy to keep the temps lower.
But to be honest I agree with you but every racer I talk to has told me it helps. I don't have any myself and have no first hand knowlegde.

Re: Tire Warmers
Anybody ever try tire "Skins"? They are not warmers, but look like they will help to retain the heat between sessions. Pretty cheap, too...
Tyre warmers are essential for racing as they provide the necessary heat in the tyre before going out on track
