Anyone built (or tried to) their own exhaust?

If so, where can I get parts? I can find muffler packing just about everywhere but finding the perforated internal pipe and other stuff is proving to be harder than expected.

Or do you think it would be easier to shape my own and do some welding?

I haven't really seen too many homemade sportbike exhausts (or mc exhausts in general) that went beyond just curved tubing.

I'd be concerned about the compatibility with the intake mapping and matching the back pressure and tuning the thing to scavenge the cylinders.

The guys on American Chopper do it all the time, though, so what do I know?

Getting the material should be easy.... Perforated Metal : Perforated Pattern & Sizes - Welcome to Huarun Perforated Metal Factory: Quality Perforated Metal from China

It all depends on your skills and the equipement you have acces to. It should be a fun project if you have time for it.

I know Tim Barker builds exhausts, and apparently quite successfully. He might be able to put you on to something.

Re: Anyone built (or tried to) their own exhaust?

i built one for a atv. it turned out to be decent. my buddy had a white brothers on the same kind of atv and they ran equal. i made the can out of alumnium that i rolled, and fot the center i used ss expanded metal that i rolled and tacked together. for packing, fmf sells bags of packing. for the noise end of it i had a piece of alumnium made into a blank (round flat piece with a 1/2" edge) that i welded to the can. i punched a hole in the blank and slid a piece of alumnium pipe in it for the tip and to hold the center tube. on the entrance side, i used a ss blank with a lip on it and poprivited it to the can. i tired an alumnium center tube but that laseted about 200 yds
