    The leg-kick turn signal.

I'm seeing this a lot more these days and it scares the hell out of me. Just the other morning on the way to work a guy on a Gixxer something or another (not bagging on Suzi riders!) riding in front of me puts his right signal on and then suddenly kicks his right leg out and changes lanes. Just about the time a cager decides to move left. It didn't happen this time, but I wonder how long before someone loses his turn signal-uh, I mean his leg.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of that type of signal either. If your bike is street legal, then it has turn signals. Use them. Also, most cagers don't understand this form of signal (i.e. leg use) so it can even confuse the cager. Something they don't need any more of.

I usually use both my turn signals and the arm signal and do it well in advance of the lane change. Then again, I care about getting killed or maimed by a cager that is suprised by a super fast lane change following a cryptic lane change signal. LOL.

While riding in a group, I'll use a foot to signal roadkill or gravel in the road to the guy behind me, but not as a directional signal.

Haha...it took me a bit to figure out what you were doing when we rode together, but by the second dead raccoon I figured it out...

when riding staggered and I want to move laterally within my lane, I'll do it. I don't see the harm in lettting peeps behind you know your intention. It hasn't gotten anyone I've seen into trouble yet.

Not all states require turn signals as hand signals are appropriate.

Well, in a group of RIDERS that are together, well sure, they understand it's purpose (but I'm like CBRVFR in that foot signals to ME indicate road debris problems). But with regard to CAGERS you're kinda assuming cager's will understand it's purpose and function. Sure, fellow RIDERS know what it means... but a cager that doesn't ride sees a "foot-kick"? Taking one's life in one's hand by assuming they'll understand it's meaning. The flashing turn indicator equipped on a factory-street-legal motorcycle or the proper hand signals are universally understood by all (now whether pay attention to them is another story).

Meaning, not all states recognize: left arm up at 90 degrees as a right turn; left arm out, horizontal, as left turn; and left arm down 90 degrees as slowing/stopping?

Odd, I thought those were the universal indications for making turns and stops in both cars and motorcycles in the event your turn indicator lights are out.

Honestly, I'm not making this up. I saw a bicyclist yesterday that actually did give the left arm up at 90 to signal a right turn.

The first thing that came to mind for me was he wanted to pit out.

You could argue that not all hand signals are appropriate.
