Engine break in methods
There are about as many preferences to this as there are types of oil and tire, but here is one of the more common ones.
Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power Personally I've had very good luck using this method for several cars and motorcycles.

Re: Engine break in methods
I can't say I have a vehicle with enough miles on it for it to ever have made a difference, but generally all I do is avoid the same rpm for extended times, avoid bouncing off the rev limiter too frequently and try to let it go through a few complete heat cycles early on. Change oil early as well...

Re: Engine break in methods
I dunno, there are as many theories out there on this as there are on where Jimmy Hoffa is.
I change the oil at 600 miles and again at about half the mileage of what the manuf. recommends and generally avoid crusing at the same RPM's for extended peiods of time...I do however like to bounce it off the rev limiter (at least I did in my car when it was new). 36k miles later and she only burns oil for a short period on startup b/c she sits idle for 3 weeks while I ride the bikes every day to work.

Re: Engine break in methods
I ride it fairly hard during the first couple of hundred miles, but I don't hammer on it. Change the oil early and you should be good to go.

I just point people to Stegen's sitting at the stoplight technique . . .

Re: Engine break in methods
My bikes are usually tortured on a dyno before meeting a dragstrip. That's the best break-in period I can imagine. If it doesn't break-in it just breaks.
