Planning on plugging in battery tenders on the GS and RR shortly, already done that on my generator and the Sherpa.
nothing else for the foreseeable future, I call it being lazy.
Only because of this thread, and the 1 degree temps last night, I finally went out and plugged it ALL in. Running tenders on everything now - I can stop feeling guilty.
already put coolant back in the bike. I should change the oil but I'll probably just wait till spring as it only had 1 track on it when I put it away. so I'm done

The motard just keeps ending up in more pieces. All because I wanted to check the valves. If I go any further with disassembly I'll be able to check the valves on the kitchen table.

Keep going.. at this rate it will be in a million pieces long enough for you to not remember how to put it together, and missing parts. Then I'll be able to pick it up cheap.

Don't worry it will be better than ever when I put it back together. Everything is neatly labeled and organized.

I was gonna say to Silver, this guy's gonna be a Dr...you have no idea, I am sure the stuff is in impulse sealed autoclaved bags
If I had the means they would be. Every single bolt is getting cleaned though before they go back in.
The bolts are actually sealed by category in breast milk storage bottles that we never used

Anything less would be uncivilized I'm in complete agreement though, I can't put back in dirty bolts.
I have several of these in various iterations and sizes but each with the smaller parts trays being interchangeable - they are GREAT for teardowns: Amazon.com: Stanley Consumer Storage 014725R 25-Removable Compartment Professional Organizer: Home Improvement
(I had a collection of MANY prescription bottles but I tossed them in favor of these). The nice shiny yellow cleanliness helps you find the parts quick and easy and helps when trying to make sure the compartments are clean too

The Seamii are awesome.
I have something similar to those parts trays for carburetor jets.

The garage now smells of gas. I pulled the tank and airbox last night.
I'm still waiting on a couple of minor components but the wiring should be going in tonight - it's developed into quite an ambitious project (relay, fuseblock, heated grips and two switches for now). I don't think I'll get to the voltmeter this winter but the fuseblock will be there and should make installation a snap.
Did you take any pics? Is it too late? I'd like a couple of the wiring into the fuseblock just to get a general idea of what you're up to on this one. I'd like to do something similar with my VFR but would like some inspiration. Wiring isn't my strong point. I have grand visions but it never comes out as clean as I'd like it.

No pics but I haven't touched the bike since the last post - currently in Chicago...
I'll snap a few to document progress but, in typical fashion, I've over-engineered the whole affair. It started as a simple heated-grip installation that has evolved into a fuseblock (six circuit) tied to a relay so it is only powered when the tail light is on. Of course, I am putting in a master switch, as well, so I can load-shed on the fly.

Sounds kinda similar to the overkill on my current project. I was just going to check the valves. Now the bike is in hundreds of pieces and I've been individually wire brushing every single piece of the bike.
I want to install heated grips as well and thought that while I was at it I'd probably also wire in power for GPS so thought that a set-up like what you're doing might be cool.

Did some maintenance on the VFR today by cranking up the outside thermostat to 63 and clearing the cobwebs out on a ~30 minute ride at lunch. It took every bit of strength to take the left back to the office.
I rode in today, and we're planning to get up early tomorrow to do something oustide, as there is supposed to be 8 inches of rain coming our way in a series of storms starting tomorrow afternoon.
No complaints though, CA pretty much always needs the water.

We had a heat wave of 47 today, it felt like a sauna when I went outside at lunch!
This am I did look at the GS in the garage, then looked at several hundred feet of 2-3" iced over dirt road/driveway thing and said dammit, and hopped in the car.

We still have 3-5 feet of snow piled everywhere so all of my maintenance is still going on in the garage.

After the kids hit the sack, I'll try to make up some time in the garage tonight. Sucks being on the road and knowing you have legitmate work to do on the bike. I'll also try to snap a few pics for you, slick.
Tomorrow is a wash as my neighbor is having a "kill-the-keg-before-the-superbowl" get together for the Colts / Ravens game. The best and worst thing your neighbor can do is put a keg-tap in his basement...

That's typically when I try to sneak in a couple hours. After Jr nods off around 7:30-8pm then I head out.

Tonight I finally quit with all the "messing around" and finally did the valves which was the original reason for starting the project. They were all just ever so slightly tight but nothing very far off. I'm going to keep going on disassembly though so that I can finish cleaning and greasing everything. I'm going to do swingarm bearings while I'm at it. I have to build my own special tool for that one.

The castle nut wrench thingie for the locknuts on the right side of the swingarm pivot. I picked up a pawn shop socket for a dollar and planned to cut it to fit using a dremel and angle grinder.

Let me know if that doesn't work out, I can send mine if you need it.

Thanks I figured that if I just go ahead now and create one that I won't have to worry about it ever again.

Guys,
Man,I feel for you all...temps in the 60s today.....got out yesterday and had
my ST and the VFR fired up to n.o.t. got most of my maintainance done cept tires for the VFR and coolant and plugs and a rear tire for the ST.....After that I'll be ready for some Spring action Feb or March....We went to Atlanta last weekend, a convention for the wife.....she sells this jewelry stuff.and I've never been roud so many cacklin, perfumed up women in my whole life...
We rolled up to the convention center and there was remnents of a storm they had still there....so far we have dodged the winter bullet.....watch it snow 5 foot deep next week I'm still saying come on Spring....
Rod
slick - I snapped a few pictures over the weekend but I'm back on the road and haven't downloaded them yet. I've got the kiddos this weekend so the wife can get some well-deserved time away so it may be a few weeks before I can post any up (much less, finish).
Progress has moved forward and the fuseblock installation is almost complete. However, I still haven't even started on the heated grips or installed any switches but all of that work is up front under the fairing and behind the dash. All that notwithsatnding, I'm thinking I'll have this thing sorted out by mid-February and can then get started on the mechanical maintenance items.
