Yeap, they had very nice bikes.

No Hammer this year :(
Was it the show where they have all the new model bikes?

Yeap. They had the new VFR but only on one of those rotating displays. The kind where you can not seat on the bike...
I missed the BMWs. I wanted to throw a leg over a GS800 but they where not there. Or rather, there were a couple on display, but not from BMW but from parts dealers, electronic and harware.
The other bike I wanted to try for fit was the Ape-RSV, but Aprilias where not there.
Not that I'm going to get any of those bikes anytime soon, but just wanted to try them out of curiosity.
We had a great time.

BMW nor Piaggio Group have ever attended IMS, AFAIK. Apparently, no ROI with the roadshow.
The BMW tent at Moto GP this year was sport-oriented only and Aprilia just does the Owner's Appreciation BBQ private event. Both are heavy on the factory trucks making the rounds at dealers for touchy-feely and test rides rather than generic convention center shows.
I suppose when you sell niche-type motorcycles in relatively small numbers, the marketing budget just isn't as massive as the big boys. It's nice to think that they invest the resources in development and engineering rather than dog-and-pony but that's just a theory of mine and it helps me sleep better at night

Our local Aprilia/Triumph/MotoGuzzi/Bimota/Ducati dealership is having a demo weekend in Ft. Worth if anyone is interested.
I hope Yamasuzi and I will be there.

I know that BMW and Aprilia / Piaggio, plus a lot of brands that are hardly ever heard of, appear at the Birmingham motorcycle show and the London motorcycle show, so I wonder if they stick to the Euro market conventions as it's easier for transportation. I've never been to the Tokyo show, so couldn't possibly comment on that....

BMW has always had a presence at the Chicago show, and Aprilia has in the past too.

Must have been regional. Neither were at the shows in Dallas / Houston that I started attending in 2001.

BMW shows up in Novi, but I haven't seen Triumph for years.

If the promotional email is to be believed, BMW will have that 6 cylinder K-bike prototype here...
