Sold my Fireblade last week. First time without a Blade for 11 years (an RRW, RRY & RR3). Really sorry to see it go, as I know that whatever comes next will be a step down in terms of performance (and with what I have in mind as a possible replacement, a step down in terms of everything).
Anyhow, sold it to a CNC miller at the McLaren F1 fcatory. So no doubt he'll be working overtime making trinkets for the old girl, tarting her up. And looking at new owners ground to dust knee sliders as he rode away, the old girl is in for a lively time.
I loved that bike, but got a little tired at travelling everywhere at warp factor 9 (or 10). Always on a mission. Couple of weeks back I went over to Abingdon to pick up parts, just felt like having a bit of a squirt, nice empty road, looked down I was doing 140+ in a 50 limit. Not good.
I don't think I've got the self discipline to keep my speeds down, and with my somewhat difficult working life at the moment I can't see myself undertaking and decent Euro tours or trips, so my next bike will be a naked roadster of some kind. Maybe a BMW Rockster, but today I made some serious enquiries about this. Stupidly low mileage for a five year old bike. I've had one before, fun things, great looking and noise, and perform really well.
I think that Monster will challenge your self control as well, maybe in terms of antics rather than outright speed, but it's a beauty-.
I'm glad I had that 954rr, and I'm glad I sold it before mayhem ensued. The equation of the bike's capabilities versus the limitations of street riding and my own limitations on the track never balanced. But I'll never forget the thrill of that violent acceleration.
That Monster still looks a bit manic...perhaps a nice Dullville would suit?
*That way I might be able to keep you in sight on a Buell...
LOL
BTW my take on the Dullville. Abingdon lent me one a while back for a day whilst my Fireblade had the fork recall done. My mini-review for a UK Honda site:
By the way, they lent me a new deauville 700 for the day. If you want a practical, reliable, easy to live with, vibey, gutless, heavy, slow, ugly commuter with piss poor brakes, then it would be a good choice.
I had the same problem, and it is a key part of what led me to the GS-A.

I heard that the BMW GS runs on magic and can ride across clouds and rainbows.
...and made of soylent green.

Dude, I'm working my way through the 4 dvd's of Long Way Down and am jonsing for one now.
Is the 4 DVD the 10 hour version, 6 or the 2?
Go see long way round when you're done, IMO it's even better because there isn't as much bs and they ride more too
Ok it's really better because you get to see ktm make one of the largest marketing mistakes in their brand history

I can say I had heard about it then got the GS, then finally saw the movies. Felt a little bit better not going with Ohlins after watching it too . The test ride alone sealed my fate, but if I was on the fence seeing lwr/d probably could have helped me pull the trigger.

I dunno, last year when I jumped the empire state building on it I went through some clouds and they sure weren't slowing me down. The downside to all that is Unicorns are dumber than deer and my little pony almost took out my right side luggage last fall. The stars in the heavens all came from the exhaust of bmw gs's too, so be grateful.

The only thing BMW could do to get more sales of these things than they currently do is officially licensed stick on BMW rubber mud as a factory accessory. If it wasn't factory and cost at least 300$ though no one would be interested cause it wouldn't be legit.

The Seamii are awesome.
Probably no better an advertisement for any bike exists than those movies though.

I'd narrowed my bike search down to a Monster (see above) or a Rockster. Had a browse of the ads in BikeTrader and MCN and found a Rockster that ticked all the boxes so hot footed down to Reading this evening. Sept 2003 bike, one owner from new (pre-registered by BMW), 21000 miles.
Kicked the tyres and gave it a particularly worthless tech inspection. Bike looked immaculate for a five year old bike. Owner was an obsessive bike fettler, had done all his own maintenance. I couldn't find anything wrong with it, so I bought it
BMW R1150R Rockster plus:
ABS brakes
Heated grips
Remus end can and Staintune collector box (saves about 10kg, might add a couple of HP)
GS screen, fits really well, looks like it grew there
GS head protectors
GS hand guards
Carbon air ducts
BMW panniers
Baglux (colour matched) tank cover and small tank bag
Home made paddock stand (see photo) - works a treat
Wunderlich footrest lowering kit (might take these off)
All original parts included.
Only thing that worries me is that it was cheap, possibly too cheap. I had budgeted approx £3500. He was asking £3000, which was a very fair price, especially considering the extras, but in true Life of Brian fashion I felt morally obliged to haggle.
Me: It's a very fair price but I feel morally obliged to haggle
Him: go on then
Me: £2800
Him: okay
His wife: I think that's a bit low
Me: £2900
Him: okay, what do you think?
Wife: It's your bike
Him: deal
Honest, that's prety well word for word.
Rode it home, big heavy bike but it goes really well. Twin motor takes a bit of getting used to but it all looks very promising!

I was looking on the Biketrader and MCN sites. This one pitched up on MCN. Must admit I'm getting more concerned about the price. It does seem to have been bought below usual market price. Stolen, about to break, cloned?
