That first session they felt like absolute crap, took it easy cause it was also cold out and came in and checked. yup both tires off 1.5-2pounds. Added a little and threw the warmers on, checked just before going out next time and they were good again.
You do realize that adding air (or N2 or whatever) makes the tire run cooler right? If the tires weren't coming in, I would guess they were over inflated unless you were seeing cold shear. With O2, you want to see a 20% pressure growth between stone cold and 3 lap hot on most contemporary track tires.

I actually didn't even think of it like that. but adding air worked. Pirelli gives the hot pressure so once I added the air I threw the warmers on and checked again before going out. I forget if I got them spot on right away or if I had to make a minor adjustment but when I went out again they felt nice. Came back in and checked and were still right where they suggest they be.

Think of it this way.. less air is a like a flat(flatter) tire. A flatter tire creates more friction. The extra friction causes heat. Extra heat causes expansion in the air, adding pressure. No one told me this... but I think I'm correct here, right?

yes I believe you are correct. I was just saying I didn't think of it at the time when I was at the track. At the time I figured that when I got off the track there wasn't enough pressure, therefore I thought not enough air in there. adding a little worked. its weird cause I remember them being around 23-24psi and 28psi before I hit the track, right when I got off they were only around 27-30 I think it was. should be at 28/32 hot.

To low a pressure might have been tire flex that you were feeling, not getting up to temperature is due to a fly riding hippie slow....

well I don't know what it was exactly but it felt like the bike wanted to just come right out from under me every time I tipped it into a corner. got the pressure right and it was good. and I was riding probably midpack in the advanced group that day and I'm UP to 124lbs according to my trip the doctor a couple weeks ago

I believe it's the flexing of the tire carcass that creates the heat.

Just a little info my dad used to help a guy that raced sprint cars (SOD champ a few times) they used to use N2 in the tires to help keep them at a constant pressure. But now most teams use normal air and a special valve stem that bleeds off the extra pressure as the tire heats up. You just set it for the presure you want and it bleeds off the extra. The only problem with the new system is you need to put some air in after each run or they are soft until they heat up. Some guys don't do this but the start of the race is very important(easier to pass people that are bunched up) so it was worth the time. Also the damage you can do to the soft tire in the first few laps can be enough to cost you the race at the end.

Why did they quit using N2?

Why did they quit using N2?
Some did some did not. Like he said its a pita to bring along a bottle of N2 just to fill the tires plus they still grow a bit because you can't get all N2.
Lots of team have the N2 bottles to run air tools and they still use the N2 with the new valve stems. Well old valve stems with center mounted bleed system makes it near fool proof.

Jumping in b/c I have N2 in my VF700 tires. A local place filled them up for free about 2-1/2 yrs ago, just before the old girl quit running. So, I don't know about street/track, heating/cooling, stability, etc. results ... but ... the bike has now sat unused for 2-1/2 yrs and the tire pressures have only dropped a few lbs., and there's no evidence of sidewall crackling :^). N2 maybe good for storing tires ??

granted the gas wont expand much if any, but wouldnt the rubber/tire expand from the heat? in turn lowering the pressure? since with the tire expanding there'd be more volume of space to fill? i have no clue what i just said hahahahahha...
