Age of bike + rider = 78 !!
Article in Bloomberg about fake DOT 'chopper helmets.'
The proponents claim that the optional $1.00 "DOT" sticker means "Doing Our Thing."

Well, the first assumption is that the DOT cert isn't fake or useless to begin with....which I think is worth a challenge on its own. And their solution, a bigger DOT sticker, or under the clear coat?
But really, this is about people not liking being coerced by law to wear a helmet, a sentiment I happen to agree with...

Does your state have a seat belt law?

If it receives federal highway money, it does.

I'm wiry
It's not just "chopper" riders using these things. I see sportbike riders all the time with the chrome 'German' helmets or other "at least I'm wearing something" helmets. It's kinda weird around here because our state has been on again/off again with helmet laws, and we're only about 15 miles from Texas, which I believe does not require a helmet, so you see guys fairly often with no helmet. I'm not sure what the penalty is for riding helmetless. If it's just a fine then there are probably folks that will just risk it. I know that not wearing your seat belt is a fine but also a non-moving violation, so folks that are adamant against being forced to wear a seat belt just do their thing.
Personally, I always wear a full-face helmet when I ride and I always wear a seat belt when I drive. But I also tend to side with those that argue it should be up to the (adult) individual whether or not to use these safety devices.

I agree with that statement as long as I don't have to pay tax money to pay for said vegetable to keep them on life support.
I could really care less what others do unless it affects me. If someone doesn't care about himself, his family and his friends, I don't care either.

How about the riders that become a vegetable because they were wearing a helmet?
I engage in risky behavior the population bears the burden of at times.
But I also bear the burden of those that treat their bodies like shit with food and exercise, and excess or lack of...so I figure it all comes out in the wash.

Because? Is that saying that the helmet kept them from dying?
I don't agree with bearing the burden of people who smoke, eat, drink, etc to excess either.
