Recommend me a supermoto Tire
I am in the middle of my CRF450F supermoto build, I have a new pilot power that I am planning on throwing on the rims for fitment purposes and was wondering how it would hold up on the race track? Would they get enough heat in them to work properly in track conditons?
any one have any other ideas as to what I should run?

2 Cylinders, 4 Valves, No Waiting
I'm planning to throw a set of those dual-compound Pilot Power 2CTs on the Hyper. I ran those on the 999 last year and really like them. I did one trackday on them, and they seemed to grip well as soon as I hit the track - They certainly weren't slippery-when-cold like dedicated track rubber.
I'm not sure what sizes they come in though - I assume you'll need something like a 160 rear?
-
Yeah 160 rear is what I am planning on.
Thanks for the input, I just wanted to see if the lack of weight was going to make a big difference, enough so that I should be looking at a dedicated supermoto tire?

Uhhh - have you looked at your avatar lately? I don't think lack of heat in your tires is going to be one of your major issues

CAN CRUSHER
Pilot Power. They've lasted through a Deal's Gap trip and three days at Grattan, and there's still enough meat on them that I'm not going to replace them until after the trip down south this May. I also have a 150 rear, not 160. Make sure the 160 will work on your rim. Island Racing Services / Michelin Motorcycle Tires usually has the 150 Pilot Power in stock.
This is only the second set of tires that have been on the bike since I did the tard conversion. The first set was Metzeler Sportec M1, and they stuck like glue, but only lasted one week at the Gap (about 1000 miles). The pilot Power have enough grip that I was able to run 1:38's on a bike that tops out at around 108 mph.

Hahaha yeah you gotta remember that bike is 200 plus pounds heavier. but thanks.
I am running an excel rim 4 inch width I think. Hoping a 160 will fit.
1000 Miles through the gap and surrounding area is pretty decent, knowing how you can ride anyway

DIRTDOG
Supermoto, Alpinestars, Acerbis, STM - motostrano.com
Has a supermoto tire section.
Will they be used for the street or the track? Both?
If just for the track I would get supermoto slicks, harder ones for larger, faster tracks.
Keep in mind that supermotos run way lower pressures about 26psi or so. This counter acts the less weight issues. The tubes also cause more heat so they do warm up.

An addiction no rehab can cure
I'd say it also depends on if you're doing real supermoto, with road and dirt, or more of a supermoto bike doing roadracing. I'd have no hesitation about using Pilot Powers (especially the 2CT's) for primarily using the bike on roadracing tracks (or the street). For limited dirt use they'd be fine, too (in a supermoto capacity). Very grippy and very long-lasting.

Yeah, one of the choices they offer is the PP but they don't seem to recommend them very highly on their site for supermoto use. It probably really does come down to how you are going to use it.
Are you putting a slipper clutch on that thing?
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

I am pretty sure that it will be pavement only if I ever get it back together. I was thinking the Pilot powers would be decent, but I may end up with a pirelli yet too.
Good info, I haed heard that pressures were a fair bit lower on these too, thanks.
As for the slipper clutch... well, we'll have to see how things go, Idon't want to dump any more into it than I have to.

Do too.
Let me know where you get the Pirellis. I'd like to pick up a spare set for my FMX650.
