Some great shots there. Until I lost my vision my only dream in life was to be a fighter pilot.

...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

If you think that loud pipes save lives, imagine what learning to really ride that thing could do.

They are a nice smooth ride at cruise too... not something I can say of the 46 or 53s.

    Chair force retaliates

I have this ex Navy blowhard (Mr Monster Cables )that sits next to me at the AFB. We like to light him up.

Found this and passed it around

A guy is driving around the back woods of Tennessee and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house:

    Talking Dog for Sale

He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

    "You talk?" he asks.

    "Yep," the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says "So, what's your story?"

The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA and they had me sworn into the toughest branch of the armed services ... The United States Marine Corps... You know one of their nicknames is "The Devil Dogs."

In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders; because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.

I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running, but the jetting around really tired me out and I knew I wasn't getting any younger.

So, I decided to settle down. I retired from the Corps (8 dog years is 56 Corps years) and signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in."

"I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

    "Ten dollars," the guy says.

"Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?"

"Because he's a liar! He never did any of that crap. He was in the Navy!"

Something to kind of counter this... (someone has to stick up for the Air Force)

Aviation Week recently reported on one of the recent combat exercises the F-22 participated in.

12 F-22As went up against F-15s, F-16s, and F/A-18s both as native and mocked up to act like Su-29 Fulcrums and Su-30 Flankers. The F-22 Raptors were outnumbered 5 to 1.

Number of Kills, you ask? 144.

    Number of Losses? 0.

    Quotes:

Squadron Commander - "We killed 33 F-15Cs and didn't suffer a single loss. They didn't see us at all."

British F-15 pilot - "The Raptor denies your ability to put a weapons system on it, even when I can see it through the canopy. It's the most frustrated I've ever been."

While my heart is in the F/A-35 (I had a minor part in it back in my Northrop days), the F-22 is simply a bad ass aircraft.

Oh, and the Mercy is actually only a few feet shorter than a carrier... they have very similar Hull sizes, it's the "flare" at the top for the hangar and flight decks that make them seem so big!

Yeah, having a little slide show on military air power without including the US Air Force is pretty stupid (yes, I know the thing was a joke).
That said, and all badassedness (new word) aside, have you seen the latest news on the Raptor?
There is a maintenance door or something that has a corrosion issue that was known like 10 years ago and not fixed. Now every single Raptor has to go through Hill to get refurbished.
Kinda silly. Actually, not kinda and not really silly. More like pathetically idiotic.

Linky: Salt Lake Tribune - F-22 Raptor's makers knew for 10 years of corrosion problem, which is costing millions to fix at Hill
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government.

That isn't even the first time the Raptors have had a design flaw fixed. I think the first one was a wing spar or something that wasn't made to spec but was still installed in the first block of aircraft. They were also fixed at Hill.
