XBox 360
So I think I am gonna bite the bullet and get an XBox... I almost got one earlier today, but they didn't have any at the Exchange I was at.
Any last minute advice? I think I am gonna get the premium one with Gears of War.

DON'T settle for Core...it sucks balls and shouldn't even be sold.
Look me up when you get it

Ditto on the Core crap, I actually just got the 'package deal' with MotoGP06 myself last week or so ago, I don't regret the spontaneous outplacement of cash whatsoever.
But I haven't played GoW yet, loving my Rainbox Six Vegas bigtime though. Played MGP06 once, and it looks cool sitting on my shelf...but I guess I like shooting people more then I like riding at the moment. I just wish there were more innocents to punish in the game

Re: XBox 360
Main thing that sucks about MotoGP is the friggin load times. It has to load after every single thing you do.
May have R6 after tomorrow or Christmas! Watch this space!
NDD~ Didya get it?

So I go all the way down to Circuit City... they were in stock according to the web site.
Without getting too bitchy, not only were practically NO sales people on the floor to help me get the "behind the counter only" XBox, I had to wait in the long checkout line only to learn they didn't have any games. So I would have had an XBox with nothing to play on it.
I left all my shit on the counter and walked out. I will try Best Buy this morning before the christmas rush and see if they have what I need.

Re: XBox 360
Well, I just bought one using the "pickup in store" option on Bestbuy.com. Let's see how well this works. I have never used it before, with any vendor.
-
Re: XBox 360
I use that option a lot. Works well.
Circuit City sucks ass. I can't believe they're still in business. I hit Best Buy all the time.
-
Re: XBox 360
I bet you could probably save a lot of hassle by calling and confirming they actually have one
-
Re: XBox 360
When you do the store pickup, it verifies all that before it e-mails you the final confirmation that you can go pick it up.

Re: XBox 360
Wow... 10 minutes after I placed the order I get the message that it is ready for pick-up. If they have the right stuff waiting for me, I may have just found my new favorite way to shop.

Re: XBox 360
That's how I do it at the Circuit City 3 blocks from my house. The prices are often lower online too, makes it even better.
-
Re: XBox 360
Yep, just go straight to the customer service counter. They should already have it pulled and sitting there for you.

Re: XBox 360
OK, first off... Best Buy pickup is the best thing since sliced bread. They have dedicated parking to pick up your crap, and when you walk in it is waiting for you.
I also got a free game since I bought online, even though I picked it up in the store. Nice.
Gears of War is awesome. They have just gotten so many things spot on it's creepy. I was never a big time video game fan (well, since I was hooked on Zelda on NES about 20 years ago) but I can see myself wasting many hours on this thing. I just have to get used to all of these damn buttons, clicky stick things, etc.
The sound, picture, and rumble all are nailed. HD video games are sweet.
OK, enough ranting. If anyone wants to add me as a friend, I am navydevildoc. I'm original like that.

That's good to hear, since it's one of the games my son is getting for Christmas (along with a 360).
His first choice was a PS3 (he has an XBox), but I told him that I was making no special concessions to get it. So he knows he's getting the 360. LOL

Just know that it is extremely violent, and full of harsh language. I am assuming he is more than old enough... but just wanted to make sure you know.

Thanks for looking out.

Re: XBox 360
Rainbow 6: Vegas is the same with the blood/guts/language. Still a good game though.

Must be the season to get Xbox's for sons...I'm buying one for my son as soon as I can get to the store.
NDD, how much did you pay?

Re: XBox 360
All told, about 460. Got the console premium version and an extra controller.
-
Re: XBox 360
Ouch. I've already been told I need to get the premium version AND another controller.
When I die I want to come back as one of my kids.

You don't HAVE to get another controller...but you must get Premium.
NDD~ Accepted your add...I'll invite you to play next time I'm on Gears. Also download the Rainbow 6 multiplayer demo...SSG, Conq, and I all have it so we can get a good game going.

Re: XBox 360
I've recently purchased the dual battery charger kit - I highly recommend it over the old plug and charge it. I also have an extra battery so I don't have to go fishing in my other remotes for AA batteries mid-frag when the battery wears down.
If you have a lot of different AV equiptment - I also HIGHLY recommend the Logitech Harmony Advanced Universal Remote for Xbox 360. This thing does everything as advertised. I went from 4 remotes to 1 and aside from it occasionally forgetting where it is at in the macros it throws at your system - it works flawlessly. It is a must have if when you have guest over and you have to show them how to change all your settings to play a game/watch tv/listen to music/watch a DVD. Switching TV inputs and AV inputs before I got this remote was a real pain in the arse.
For reference my setup is:
Phillips 60" Rear Projection HDTV
Sony STR-DE975 receiver
Xbox 360
Cox HD cable

Re: XBox 360
Damn it... the receiver here in the living room has been on its last leg for some time. I just killed it with a frag grenade in Gears. Big boom, then "click" - silence.
Now I have to get more crap. This is good and bad, I needed a new one anyway, but I didn't want to have to do it now.

Re: XBox 360
The dual charge kit is on my christmas list. I already have one rechargeable battery pack that I charge with the cable.

Do they make one specifically for the 360? I have a Harmony 880 (I think) I can't get the damn thing to work right with my receiver and TV. It will control the TV but won't switch between the inputs corrctly and it won't work the volume on my receiver.
-
Re: XBox 360
Yep - they make one specificlly for the 360 - it was cheaper than the 880 which is why I went with it
Harmony Remote Products > Logitech® Harmony® Advanced Universal Remote for Xbox 360
OOOHHHH and its in storm trooper white.
Having the cradle to recharge the remote (like the 880) would be nice - this model uses 4 AAA batteries which I have to replace every couple of months. Not bad for something I use every day.
Oh yeah - its backlit too - a huge plus during a makeout session in low light and you want to turn off the TV without breaking the mood.
-
Re: XBox 360
Well for some reason the 880 doesn't play nice with my TV or my receiver. It'll set up to switch everything around, but it doesn't actually work. Maybe my TV is weird or something, but I have to use 3 remotes to control my stuff. I have the 360 media remote but never used that and don't know I ever will.

I'll just tell you right now that if your 360 starts to freeze and the red lights don't come on to signify and error, don't I REPEAT DON'T CALL THE 1800 MY XBOX number. Go on the website or ask me how I fixed mine.

Re: XBox 360
Oh yeah and I hate to break this news now, the rumor is that the 360 is dropping $100 after christmas. Which in turn means you can buy a 360 and a Wii for cheaper than buying just a ps3.
