iPod question
I bought my first iPod today for a trip to China in a week. It's a 4 gb nano. I have a bunch of music that I bough legally via download from MusicMatch that iTunes doesn't seem to want to convert to WMA due to right protection. But I know that I bought it. Is there a way around this?

Re: iPod question
Burn it to CD and import it into iTunes.

That did it. Thanks.
So far I'm liking the pod itself, but iTunes sorta blows.

Stuff for your iPod
There really isn't anything fancy about iTunes, it works well though.

I never have liked iTunes but SoundJamMP was never updated for OSX so there isn't a lot of choice.

Re: iPod question
Yeah, it sorts them by name, artist and genre. You could always edit the title of the song and put a number in front of the song title and order it that way

Re: iPod question
Take the Nano back!
I've been using a Creative Vision 30gb model. You make your playlist thru windows media and its much less of a hassle than any ipod i've used/owned. Other Creative mp3 players have been much more user friendly for me also (especially on the bike)

For the record, if I can't have albums play in the order in which they were published I will probably take it back.

Yeah, a layer 8 issue.
HD - I just tested this and whatever order you put the playlist together is the order in which it plays...and you can sort it if you want by artist or genre etc. and if you save it (create it) like that it will play. Only time its diff is if Shuffle Songs is on.
Now bear in mind there are 3 ways to shuffle:
Main Menu -> 'Shuffle Songs'
Main Menu -> Settings -> 'Shuffle: Album' 'Shuffle: Song'
If the any of these are on, all bets are off.
One nice feature that you cannot do in the older versions of itunes that I think is really nice but simple is the ability to mass select 'do not play in shuffle'. So if you have that Paris Hilton song on there but don't want it coming out of our stereo with others around - it won't. I mean, just saying...ya know, if ya have some music like that, cause, not me, I don't or anything..but if I did...ya know, I'd like to use that function.
Actually I use that function primarily for weirder electronic stuff, where a session is really just chopped up into a few tracks for purposes of easier listening if you don't have 84 minutes to skip through it.
Did I mention the next ipod will have A2DP via Bluetooth? that will be cool

shuffle is not on. I can go into my mp3 folder and pick say 5 random songs from 5 different artists. after selecting them I hit open. iTunes pops up and they aren't in the order in which I selected them but the first one I selected will play first but the rest will shuffle through randomly it appears. this is just in the library as I don't want to have to make playlistsbecause I'm just picking random songs and a playlist wouldn't make any sense since I'd have to reaarange it each time. I just wanna pick the songs I wanna listen to right at that moment and listen to them in the order I want. It won't let me put them in the order I want.

Itunes is a library manager, not just a player app? at least in Windows thats how it works...and yes if I do the same thing in Windows I dont really have any control.
Is this different on a mac?

Let me know what skins you have and what you want for it. I've got the new nano which is smaller than the original.

do I have to make a new playlist each time?

yes and yes. Though in iTunes you can do a party shuffle also. Or a smart list (lots of options including a number of random songs)
