Rich Herald's final contribution to humanity. UPDATED links to the videos.
I was working late this evening and got a call from a friend who was watching the 6:00 Detroit local news on TV. He was shocked to see Richard's face on the screen, followed by a news story related to SEVERAL people in Michigan who have received the gift of health (and life, in some cases) from the organs that our good friend donated. Some of these rather grateful people were interviewed in the segment.
I went home and armed the DVR, but they didn't repeat the story on the 11:00 news. I have a call in to the producer to see if I can get a copy or to ask if the video can be added to the archive at Detroit News, Michigan Breaking News and Detroit Weather Online - WDIV ClickOnDetroit.com Maybe if a whole bunch of us ask...
What a guy. I hope some of the folks who benefited from his generosity will cure cancer or something. I'm going to LA this weekend. Hope to have some time to process this. In the meantime, I'm going to sign the donation section of my license.

Re: Rich Herald's final contribution to humanity.
Thanks for posting that. Truly his parting gift to the world.
I've been signed up as a donor since I got my license at 16.
I hope to wear them all out myself, but if that doesn't work out for me, I hope others enjoy my bits as much as I did!

Re: Rich Herald's final contribution to humanity.
OMG...had a call from a relative last night telling me about a news report she saw about a father who lost his life in a motorcycle accident and how he became an organ donor. I had told her about Richard earlier in the week, but said I doubt it was the same person on the news. I'm glad I was mistaken...his spirit truly lives on.

Re: Rich Herald's final contribution to humanity.
Quite an inspiration. Some people have the gift of posivitely affecting everyone they come in contact with: Good friends and passing acquaintances alike. Richard was clearly one of those people.
Would that I could do the same.

I wish I, and many others, were worth a tenth of his value and his family's. I don't know if I'm saying it right but you know what I mean...

What a fitting tribute to our friend! A life saved, all due to the selflessness and generosity of one who will be missed by many for a very long time.

I find it really comforting to see that the receiving person, and family, looks like good people.

Yes.
And the list of people he helped on top of them, a kidney to two people, eyes, and ultimately bone. My 21YO cousin's life was saved from leukemia last year from an anonymous marrow donor, so this hits very close to home.

Wow. Ok, I'm in tears. I long ago decided to become an organ donor but this has made me make sure those around me who need to know this, do.

Unreal... absolutely unreal. The Lord works in mysterious ways. It's very comforting to know that in a way (like they said on the news) that Rich still lives on. Absolutely amazing...
