Age of bike + rider = 78 !!
Just in time for Grattan, I took 2 1/2 HOURS off my lap time.
The lap around the yard on the lawnmower, that is. I have 4+ acres to mow, and I have a really bad attitude about it. Gas costs too much, it's a waste of my diminishing lifespan, the neighbors hate to hear me scream obscenities for hours on end, etc.
After my 12 year old lawn tractor had another breakdown, I said fuck it (among other things) and got one of these.
Craftsman 2690641 24 hp 50 in. Deck, ZTS 7500 Zero Turn Riding Mower at Sears.com
It was on sale for under 3 grand. Takes some getting used to, until you figure out it's like countersteering a bike!
My first try ( including some 12-15" high grass that the other mower wouldn't cut) took 2.3 hours, compared to more than 5.
That's time I can be on the VFR.. I'm just thinking of it as a for the street bike.

You ought to get a PTO installed on the VFR and pull a 60" deck. THAT's a time-saving mod.

Awesome! I only have 3/4 acre to mow compared to your 4, but it takes an afternoon, including getting out the hand mower and trimmer. I have a 15+ year old Toro Wheelhorse. I'll run it till it won't run without expensive repairs. Then I'd consider something like you purchased, especially since it takes less time.

Enjoy the beauty of any smaller trees now.
Before you mow them over. I ran a dixie chopper for a bit, they do take some getting used to.

I have a lawn service, but I'll wager your new mower is more fun. Now, supercharge it and cut the time again in half.

I can relate - I 've got less lawn than you, but it still feels like a big waste of time.
Congrats on the new mower: I've been wanting one of those for awhile, and painting the old mower bright yellow was my attempt to keep myself from spending the money.
Maybe next year.

Don't skimp on a weed eater. I used to own a lawn care biz. I would only buy the guys Echo weed eaters. They cost a bit more but will last you a long, long time. That is unless you do what one guy did. He was done weed eating and put it down in front of the truck to grab the blower. He came back, put the blower away, jumped in the truck and CRUNCH.
What engine is Craftsman using on their bigger mowers these days?

Why don't you just invite SOB and his "kin" over for a feast?

See you at Grattan

Listing says 24HP B&S.
Congrats on the new mower. I had mine (6", 25hp Kohler) lined up for purchase before I took possession of my house (~4.5 acres of grass ... cut in under 2 hours ). No way I would have that much grass without it.
You get the back end swinging and they do great donuts too

It makes amusing rubber screeching noises when you zero-turn on the concrete, too..

I always had good luck with Kohler and Kawasaki engines on my mowers. I used the commercial Snapper walk behinds.
There's nothing like using those big mowers on a small residential lot. I used to love being able to pull up, unload the stuff, cut the grass, weed eat, blow off the sidewalks and drive, and be back on the road in about 10-15 minutes at the most. It made it even nicer if I could do it while some other poor bloke across the street would only complete like half his front yard in the entire time I was there.
