Do you really think the "modern" recording techniques improve the iPod listening experience?

I have some old stuff on my iPod, mastered long before the loudness wars, and I'm not sure I agree.

I'm not saying I prefer to listen to processed recordings (I certainly do not), just that if you're listening in an adverse environment with external noise, some processed sounds can be helpful. When I listen to a string quartet recorded without processing while commuting on a train, I lose quite a lot of the quiet pieces or blast my ears on the loud bits or have to fiddle with the volume constantly.

It's only the same as saying having a hearing aid can be helpful to people with defective hearing. You'd prefer not to have defective hearing, but...

"It's actually useful if you're listening in a car or on a train with headphones"

as I alluded to earlier, as a "professional" listener, I can't tolerate listening to music while doing anything else, especially driving. I can barely use my phone in the car (especially with all the I/M phase distortion on digital cell service).

People don't invite me to movies or concerts ever, as I ruin the experience for everyone else.

I love listening to music while I'm driving, but agree with you otherwise.

Even Jazz has joined in the "loudness wars", as LTL referred to it. I've bought some "remastered" material over the last few years that just sounds abysmal compared to previous generation releases.

Making it louder with excessive digital clipping does not mean "remastered".

Damn - what a rhythm section. I don't like the vocalist's style, though. They need a brassy, soulful woman with some pipes. Maybe Sharon King instead of Steve King?

That isn't Steve on either of those tunes, it's the keyboard player. Steve has a much more pop style (and less giggling). Interestingly, Steve King and the Dittilies is the official Rock Band of the State of Michigan. I'm not sure what that means, but the strange lady that occasionally visits Lansing signed a proclamation to that effect a couple of years ago.

I know this question will probably give you hives but is there a chance there will be a CD version of this album?

I signed on for both a vinyl and CD release. It will probably be a 3 LP/2 CD set. I found an excellent CD mastering engineer that is even more whacked than I am about sonics, depth of field, soundstage and dynamic range. The CD will definitely qualify for "Turn Me Up" status and I expect to see a dynamic range "slightly" beyond the standard "Major" release ten db .

The new Gary Moore CD - "Bad for You Baby." His best CD in many, many years. Great blues from start to finish.
