Frank I thought of you last night... We took my parents to see James Taylor and his Band of Legends. It was the most perfectly produced concert my ignorant ears had ever heard. There were 13 musicians on the stage but the sound was perfectly crisp and clear and everything seemed to be mixed perfectly.

James Taylor is completely hands on with every aspect of every show and record he has performed in/on. At an early point in his career he took the time to learn quality production techniques and has made it a point to hire top flight engineering and production staff and personally review every performance for several days following as they always record every show.

Interestingly, Eric Clapton used to do the same, but since becoming an advertising token for Harman International, he has let the technology run the show and it has totally ruined the audio for all the patrons.

Glad you enjoyed the performance

They played a version of "Steamroller" that brought everyone to their feet and made your spine tingle.

Today? I'm listening to some face melting metal ... a nice little mix of some Maiden, Metallica and Bullet for My Valentine in preparation for tomorrow's Bullet show.

BFMV is finally here on their own tour in September. I'm pumped about that.

Today, I'm listening to The Legendary Shack Shakers - Cockadoodledon't

I'm still on a big Son Volt kick these days.

My listening habits have been in huge blocks this year for some reason. Couple of months of Black Crowes (every studio album), couple of months of Drive-By Truckers (Brighter Than Creations Dark, The Dirty South, Southern Rock Opera), couple of months of Son Volt (Trace, Straightaways, Okemah and the Melody of Riot, The Search).

Currently rocking The Offspring- Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace as I muck about with installing software.

Stupid title, good album if you like the Offspring. Sounds like they never took a break, a logical extension of Smash.

Dragonforce-Ultra Beatdown.

saw them the other day, they rule but didn't get to play long because crappy ass Disturbed was the coheadliner with Slipknot. Slipknot puts on a good show though. The last song the drummer was lifted up in the air and tilted forward a la old Tommy Lee just without a cage.

Sad admission, but reliving my youth last night with 10CC and Supertramp (How Dare You, Crisis, What Crisis, Crime of the Century). Trying out my new Stello CDT/DAC100 Signature combination (close your ears, Abtech) and thinking it sounded much better than I remember my 1970's vinyl, Class A Sugden and horn speakers when I last listened to it.

I have annual hearing tests and the deterioration of higher frequencies over the last five years IS material.

I have been lucky in that respect. My overall threshold has risen over the past 10 years, but the 10K to 15K band is still about the same as it was in my twenties. I firmly believe it is due to never listening to the radio or other background noise while driving or working (working on something other than music, that is) and never driving with the window down.

I also attribute my lack of HF loss to not listening to MP3s or other highly distorted media (especially with something as bad as ear buds).

I don't know about that. All of mine are really faded and some have a lot of holes in them as well .

OF, I've done a whole bunch of AB'ing, and dollar for dollar, I haven't heard CD compare yet. It's either memory, or your new gear is much better. CD has come a real long way, but it also HAD to.

On that note I should add some information that bears directly on this subject.

When the CD form factor was first introduced, audio production was still based almost entirely on
