Re: What are you listening to?

I just listened to Our Endless Numbered Days by Iron & Wine--twice. It's very mellow, and it's all acoustic. Lots of fingerpicking songs, and many have a very old school bluesy-folksy sound. It's all pretty simple instrumentation, but it's all really beautiful and catchy.

I highly recommend it if you are into a slower, folksy sound.

I have a Pnu Riff playing right now, but will have something much more aggressive (I am thinking Taproot) on later in the car.

Taproot's first album "Gift" was really aggressive and heavy, and their later albums still sound like them...on high doses of valium.

Yeah... I still like it, but I agree. Gift is still my favorite after all of these years. Stephen (the lead singer) was a friend of a friend a few years back, and I heard that this is just want they wanted to do. I can't fault that.

Yeah, I agree. Not bad, just different. I saw Taproot open up for Deftones and Incubus once...all around amazing show! Stephen jumped off of a balcony into the crowd during their performance!

Paint the Sky with Stars...the best of Enya

to be followed by

JJ Cale and Eric Clapton

What a combination! Christmas gifts that no matter what it sounds like, it is the best music in the world because my family gave it to me!

(Although I am a big fan of Eric Clapton)

Re: What are you listening to?

I agree with you ab. I also love Beck. The only problem is if I mention Beck around my local circle, the response is "That's a good beer" and I have to say no, that's Boch, Beck is a musician and then the conversation deteriorates rapidly, so I thought better of mentioning Beck!

If I could only play at least a quarter of either talent...

I like them both, but Jeff Beck is awesome. "Wired" has been one of my favorites for a long time.

In terms of soul, it's close, but in terms of talent, no contest.

Jeff has also had his demons throughout his career and unfortunately didn't know when to shut up when he was being interviewed. He alienated just about every record company he ever worked with . . .
