    Shuttle Launch 8 JUN 07 (STS-117)

Ran across the signs announcing the launch of Atlantis (STS-117) while I was in Huntsville last weekend.

    Launches at 7:38pm tomorrow night:

    NASA - Space Shuttle

Nasa TV page so you can watch live: NASA - NASA TV Landing Page
    Ducit Amor Patriae

    Richard Herald, The Gentle Giant

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.

One of the coolest sites for anybody who lives in central Florida!

Of course, when it re-enters to land at Kennedy the sonic boom is enough to make you shit your pants.

I'll post some live pics. I plan on riding over to the edge of 'public view' for this one on the coast. It's about a 40 minute ride. I like the rumble of the ground when it goes....

I have not seen an actual launch but have done the tour of the launch site. it is very impressive. The white smoke you see when it is taking off is actually steam, the dump water from I believe 4 water towers just to keep the launch pad cool.

Even if you don't, you'll still get a great show (which I'm sure you already know). I remember the first one I saw was from a golf course on the western side of Orlando (I think I was 10). Like an enormous torch rising into the sky.

    Very impressive stuff.

If I get home from work on time, I'll go for the close up but if I'm late, you guys will get the back yard pics. Not much difference actually except maybe this time I can get it still on the pad.

Well that explains why we have been seeing the Shuttle 747 ferry plane at the plant and out at Edwards getting in some Airfield Fam and touch and go's.

Always good to see the boys going into space.

I have had the distinct please to work for KSC. The best perk of the job is viewing shuttle launches up close and personal. I got to view more launches as close as about four miles away or so. Night launch is the best....

    You have no idea . . .

    Now in stereo
    Visionaries say "Yes, we can."
    Engineers say "Not so fast."

    and Seamus is awesome

Last time I drove over using a road with the most dircect route it was 35 miles. The time frame was about a minute or 2. I got about 3 close ups between the far shots. As fast as my digicam will auto focus and shoot.

I bet it's pretty loud, too?

It must be a real thrill to see that. Thanks for the photos.

We heard but didn't feel the rumble but it was after the SRB separation.
