I figured out what the "PF" in "P.F.Chang" stands for.

    Pathetic Fuckups.

I've got a problem here. My wife has unaccountably come to believe these Pretentious Fools make the best Chinese food anywhere. The closest one is in Lansing, about an hour away, and I've been picking up takeout for her whenever I'm in the area.

But I've had more crappy, salty, inconsistently prepared, nearly Poisonous Food from that place than any other restaurant in my entire life.

I'll still get food for her, but I'm not eating anything from that Phoney Facade ever again.

We've always enjoyed them when traveling to cities that have them. They built one here last year, and so far it's been very good, with the exception of poor service on one visit.

    BTW, I'm with you 100%.

I worked as a cook in college, and I worked with a Thai lady, who eventually opened her own resturant.

On the weekends she and I would cook up all sorts of good stuff for ourselves, so unless I make it, or it is at a select few other "Chinese" resturants, I think they all suck. PF included.

My problem is almost always the meat. They use the lowest quality crap they can find in most of those places.

Re: I figured out what the "PF" in "P.F.Chang" stands for.

North American Chinese food is gross... only problem is, authentic Chinese food is much worse. If a Chinese guy ever offers to take you to "hot pot" turn him down. THere are certain parts of the animal that are not meant to be eaten.

Vietnamese food OTOH... I can not get enough of that shit. I think the French influence on southeast Asian food created the ultimate cuisine. In fact, I had rare beef noodle soup and salad rolls for lunch today. yum.

    Thai is hella good too.

Go spend a month in San Antonio. While there - try to find a place that serves Mexican

PF down there means Phucking Food...cause even though it's not the best of the best - it's still pretty damn good. After a month of mexican it's like an oasis, literally.

This is funny. I have a co-worker who likes everything I dont like. He likes PF Chang. I prefer Panda Inn which is the step up restraunt of Panda Express.

Since my wife and her sisters worked for Panda... they knew the competiton. I think PF was invented by two Anglo guys.

Reminds me... Sunday brunch at Panda Inn Pasadena... All you can eat honey walnut shrimp, spicy orange chicken and fried wantons. MMMmmm!

Not all of them. Fucking Saltgrass Steakhouse is the bomb! Their chicken fried steak is outstanding, and you can get it with a sweet potato, which is cooked to perfection. And they have this honey butter to go with it, damn it's good!

PF sucks and totally agree with you. Good Chinese food is best found at a mom and pop deal.

LOL Saltgrass...my uncle is in love with that place too. Last time I was out there he kept trying to get everyone to go eat there.

I think it's OK. Not outstanding, but definitely edible.

Re: I figured out what the "PF" in "P.F.Chang" stands for.

There is a PF's on Haggarty, just north of 6 mile it you want to try another one

We actually had pretty good food there, but I would label it as american with an Chinese flair ... definitely not real Chinese ... though I haven't found one here in the states yet that does it authentic.

One place you can try if you haven't all ready is the Great Lake Chinese Food on Carpenter, just south of Washtenau. Most authentic in the area if you don't order their Americanized entrees(these are good too if you like that kind of stuff). Good food and "wife" approved.

As for Veitnamese, when the refuges (some time ago) started landing in my Aunt's neighborhood they suddenly didn't have a problem with stray dogs or cats ... and some started disappearing from back yards , so I don't know if they are any better.

And it isn't just the Asians that eat parts of animals that shouldn't be eaten. My Hungarian and Austrian forefathers ate more than I am willing to try today. In the states, we just hid all that stuff (and more) in the hotdogs they sell at the stadiums.

For steak I go some place else. The thing to get there is the CFS. For most restaurants out there, either chain or independent, I've found that they have one or two dishes that are good. Don't believe the hype.

Re: I figured out what the "PF" in "P.F.Chang" stands for.

I've eaten there a few times, and it was decent, but kind of a rip-off if you ask me. I got sesame chicken--which tastes basically the same as the local take-out stuff I get--and though it was pretty good it was a pretty small portion for the $12.95 or whatever it was. I guess I'd rather pay $8.00 for twice as much food and be able to sit on my couch and eat it.

Get the Chang's Spicy Chicken or Orange Peel Shrimp. Yeah, it's a bit overpriced - but so much better than the oversalty, MSG-laden, pour it from a can crap you get at most Mom & Pop Chinese places...
