I just booked the air-fair.
Leaving DFW to Madrid (they finally have a direct flight) then to Valencia.
It's been almost two years since I've been back. I can't wait to see my brother and sister.
I'll be in my "home away from home" in mid March.

Good thing you didn't book it for the end of June. Hey, wait a minute.. I thought you were Mexican? Wife and I were just talking about going over there the other day. (eventually that is..) We were looking at Facebook pictures of Spies' house in Italy. (she is facebook friends with him now) However she said she'd rather go to Vegas, I'd rather go over there. Odd..

I am going to follow your advice and enjoy myself A WHOLE LOT. Thanks.
March 10th-18th, is the biggest celebration in Valencia. It's know as falles.
I can get the Spanish booze here but I don't think you guys will like it. Spanish stuff is more of the wine and cava (cava = wine Methode Champagnoise) kind. They have others, but I don't think their quality is very good.
Bacardi's original owners are from Spain, I believe. Not positive.
I am going to miss the WSBK by a month I think. I will attend the Spanish moto2 championship though, with my brother.

Spain is a great vacation and tourist destination, but for the glamour value, I'd recommend France or Italy. Spain is quite a bit cheaper though.
Venice, Portofino, Florence, Paris, Nize... Lots of fun, lots of tourists, very expensive.
Barcelona, Valencia, Granada and some other Spanish towns are great too, but not as nice as their Italian counterparts, even if it pains me to say so.
Vegas? Vegas is a theme park for adults. Not half bad either.
I can't wait...

Not as nice as some others. I really tend to romanticize the town I was born in. I guess it's the emigrant effect. It is a great town with a great history.
Oh, and Silver, I am as much Mexican as you are.

Vegas is fun for a few days... but as you're sitting in the airport waiting to leave, broke, hung over and worn out... you hate the damned place. 6 months recovery and you're ready to go back.
After our trip to France and Spain, we spent the next couple of months trying to figure out how to live there.
edit: Heading to vegas next weekend... a little over 6 months since the last visit.

That's very true. In our first trip we thought we would not spend a lot of money since we don't really gamble. Boy, were we wrong... They're specialist at getting your money. I think we spent $10.00 at the casino. The rest were other activities.
On the second trip, we got married at Liberace's house which we rented for a party of five, us and three guests, for two hours.

Have a great time One. We had a neighbor that was from Germany and he always raved about it (except for about 2 weeks after he returned from there ) Of course in your case seeing family will be cool regardless of the where

You're thinking like a local ! There's lots of high quality Spanish wine, including Cava, but you have to pick and choose, nothing different from France and Italy. The local drinking wines en famille (what's the Spanish?) aren't up to much, but that's exactly as it would be in France or Italy.

Very nice - Michigan is about to get 10 inches of snow, so I'm doubly jealous.

I've been to the city areas of France a few times and enjoyed it, but never really had the desire to live there.
I proposed to my wife in the Brittany area, and after the shock of that wore off, we spent a whole lot of time talking/plotting on how we could live there, or in other country villages to the south, part of the year...the pace of life there is incredibly relaxing.

I think you are spot on. Spain has some very good wines and cavas, but that's not what Spaniards drink at lunch time on a daily basis.
Tempranillos and most Riojas are usually good. I don't know much about wines but my wife likes them so we taste quite a few from all over the world, including many from Spain.

While I have been to Spain, I feel compelled to post this...
Freixenet has always had great advertising campaigns. They are actually one of the brands I find in just about every supermarket in the States.
It's good very cold.

We are still thinking about that ourselves.

I'm pretty sure if we could do 6 weeks a year there, we'd live a decade longer.
Spain is high on the list to try, but the late dinners/nightlife I always read about aren't our way.
After quite a few years in the States, I have to say it takes me a couple of days to get used to late dinners/nightlife when I go back. But there are other things I can't get passed. For instance:
- Traffic and the lack of parking spots. (Fortunately they have great public transport).
- A great percentage of the population smokes in restaurants, bars, offices, etc. (I think they've just changed the law last year).
- Personal bubbles are way smaller. People get really close to talk to you.
- Very homes are air conditioned.
- Bureaucracy is rampant, although the situation has improved lately.
- I feel raped everytime I fill up the gas tank.
- Etc, etc, etc.
They do have many, many other things I could get used to very quickly, though. Having the whole month of August off might be at the top of the list. The food might be right after it.
Still, their laid back culture focuses more in enjoying life, friends, and family, than in productivity and making more money. It is a very different way of life indeed.

Wine... Just make sure that you don\t get that crap out till ALL the other booze runs out or I won't make the track the next day... I think I'm getting a headache just typing that... hahaha
Bacardi was founded in Cuba, although they denied it for a while.
Well, on your first comment, sorry, but this trip is about family, friends, food and festivities, so I am going to enjoy myself as much as I can. I will take care though. Thanks.
About Bacardi, they did start in Cuba, then moved to Puerto Rico, I think, but the original owners, I believe, where from Valencia, hence the bat in their logo, since it's also in the shield of the city.
Anyways, leaving for the airport in a bit . I'll post pictures as soon as I get settled down, tomorrow.

So I promissed I'd post some pics, but it comes out, the DSL accounts available to me in good ol' Spain are quite a bit slower than the standard on this side of the pond.
In any case, I had a blast. I visited with family and friends, ate my weight at every meal, and repleanished the batteries.
Visiting Valencia at mid March is always an unforgetable experience.
Here is proof:
