Toyota pulls ads from US TV network: report - Yahoo! News
This will help with their image for sure.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government.

Toyota had a new commercial out last night; pretty much apologized and laid out their current actions and plan.

Media-relations wise, it would have been perfect had they released it about three weeks ago. Even still, it's a step in the right direction to getting their message out.

They played the heck out of that commercial here yesterday. It was all over CNN, NBC, and Fox all day. I think I saw it at least 10 time yesterday and I only watched about 2 hours of TV in between surg cases.

I wonder if the government's ownership of Chrysler and GM has anything to do with this recall getting blown out of proportion? Congressional hearings, etc?

On their own, or at the request of the UAW/Gubmint Motors?

    Edit:
Personally, I don't think there is any skullduggery going on here...but it's going to be real easy for the Right to spin it as such. At the very least they will have a valid point that the Gov't has a very real conflict here..

Lawmakers heard a brief, but riveting, description from Smith, the Tennessee woman whose Toyota-made Lexus suddenly zoomed to 100 miles per hour as she tried to get it to stop — shifting to neutral, trying to throw the car into reverse and hitting the emergency brake. Finally, her car slowed enough that she was able to pull it off the road onto the median and turn off the engine.
Fighting back tears, she described her nightmare ride of October 2006, calling it "a near death experience."
"After six miles, God intervened" and slowed the car, she said. She added that it took a long time for Toyota to respond to her complaints
I just don't completely believe this story. If she got the car to neutral all she had to do was push the brake pedal. The C&D tests show that even without shifting to neutral all she has to do is push the on the brakes. Do I believe that the car malfunctioned, yes, but I think there is also some driver error if it took her 6 miles to sort things out.

I read that article this morning and thought the exact same thing. She never put it in neutral. I'm no Toyota fanboi but I have one word for this: witchhunt.

Agreed. Congress has found yet something else to clog the news with other than their own sloth and incompetence. They will squeeze so much water out of this rock that we might need to build another ark.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

The first MSM report I saw talking about the "opportunity" of getting a foreign CEO into Congress I wanted to vomit.

Will they start talking about unintended acceleration reports in other marques, or will it be contained to Toyota?

And more topically, with MC's now having throttle by wire, how soon til a lawsuit happens in that segment...

I'm lucky to be alive Officer. The throttle got stuck so I just had to ride the wheelie out for 12 miles till the rpms dropped back down.
