Sucks for Toyota but the domestics might benefit from this. Honda certainly will.

    Agree.

I have a good amount of respect for professional drivers.

I see countless events of a lane merge and some a-hole on their phone with a rig in the other lane - getting closer closer and then the horn blows while the person jams on their brakes and gives way to the rig. Meanwhile the rig has had his blinker on for the last mile and the idiot next to him keeps matching his speed (on phone = autopilot for many) and he can't get over and finally says screw it.
That person will in turn rant to whomever about how dangerous rig drivers are what a great idea to "ban" them from something they're likely not doing anyways!

    you been following me around?
actually that's only happened to me a couple times over the years. The majority of the times I blow the horn is when some idiot doesn't yield when getting on the highway. They usually brake a whole bunch just before actually getting to the lane then decide to try to merge when they're 3 ft from my bumper doing 25mph when I'm doing a normal highway speed. sucks jamming on the brakes then trying to get a slow underpowered truck back up to speed. Then there's no point to getting pissed at them cause they're half a mile up 3 lanes over with 2 more people they just cut off being pissed at them.

luckily I don't see too much of that crap anymore. I go from Canton to Lexington up 95 and that's all the highway I do on my route 3 days a week about 25 miles I think. granted that's still around 5-6pm so I still plenty of stupid crap. after that I'm on all nice barely populated back roads.

Edited for appropriate activity...specifically the Corolla and Camry. The Yaris folks are just trying to get somewhere and the Avalon folks think the horn doesen't work cause they can't hear it anyways. The rest think they're professionals

only 1 of our route travels that stretch. and even the faster of the 2 guys that do probably doesn't go through till about 9pm so traffic is gone by then. but last time I did that route a few months ago I did have one of these exact moments there and couldn't move over. I want a PA so I can yell at people to point out their specific stupidity in the hopes that maybe I can get one person to realize they drive like shit.

I'd yell at them to drop the phone, they'd press it to their ear harder and look around while saying to the person on the other end "did you hear that" then they'd hit the guard rail. followed by, where the hell did that come from.

Jesus Christ riding a Dinosaur...Toyota has recall, from a part they didn't make, and all of a sudden they are the anti-christ? Yet the bazillion of recalls from Ford, Chevy, and Dodge over the years don't even raise an eyebrow? Do you just expect them to be so shitty that something is going to be wrong with them? I'm flabergasted at the responses.

Seems too early to say whose "fault" it is at this point...we may never know.

It will tear their asses up.

This is worse than the Firebomb debacle at Ford, which only affected certain Exploders, and Ford paid a steep price on that one, despite it not being their "fault" either. Having been involved with lawsuits and problems in our products due to a subcontractor's fuck ups, I can tell you, whether or not it was a problem at "CTS", the customer will quite rightly be blaming Toyota.

I personally don't think any less of Toyota, if it's only 8 incidences (by that I mean sudden accelerations, not crashes) they're at commercial aviation levels of quality which is pretty much as good as man-made gets.

They seem to be handling it properly at this point, and they are perennially at the top of JD Power - I don't see that changing. It's not like they named their latest hybrid after a feminine hygiene product or something...

If anything, it seems as if they're going for overkill to protect their customers. Where they are failing so far is communicating that effectively and managing the message.

those 8 bad ones I said came from CTS not from Toyota. I believe they weren't even in vehicles yet. unless you've heard somewhere else of there being 8 on road incidents.

I think in the short term it will because people are stupid and don't understand that every company has had parts fail. But its really gonna hurt them now because no one is gonna go into a Toyota dealer right now to look at any of the few choices they have left to sell.

And let's be honest, our society loves to see the big ones fall - be it large corporations, athletic teams, politicians or celebrities.
Today's public figures can no longer write their own speeches or books, and there is some evidence that they can't read them either.

Yeah, actually you're probably spot on. I have been a Hyundai fan since 2004 or so,they just hasn't had a vehicle that is what I've been looking for since then. The Genesis was close this last time but got pricey when it started getting to what I wanted in my next ride and I was trying to keep it budget. If they make something AWD and luxury-ish in the coming years it would be hard not to consider shifting the wife to it.

With Toyota down a bit and Honda being a much pricier alternative, hopefully more people will give Hyundai a shake.

Excelent point. The front ball joints of my 2003 Tundra were recalled because they found less than a dozen that got loose before the normal lifespan. They found the possability a couple of dozen got damaged during assembly, so they replaced every damn one. That makes me WANT to buy a Toyota, being so proactive. I think most other car companys would have just saved the money and use it to pay the lawsuits on the handfull of accidents that could have possably happened.
