    Phishing using Monster.com

    I received an e-mail stating that I will no longer be able to sign into my Monster.com account unless I download the "Monster Job Seeker Tool". I got p1ssed off and called them to delete my account. Yep, it was a phishing scheme. I changed my password for my account and reported the scam to a scam reporting agency that Monster.com wanted me to use. This e-mail looked like the real deal. If someone has the time, could you please look up the scam and let me know what I avoided? Thanks

    Whatever variation on the theme you experienced is no more than a con to appeal to job seekers who would be more likely than the average joe to submit a social security number and supporting data.

    One hopes that retribution will find these people at last.

    JOB SITES ADVISE USERS: Not to share Social Security data over the Internet
    Don't give credit card information to employers
    Avoid disclosing your marital status
    Be particularly cautious with employers outside the U.S.

    Rule one: There is NOTHING you cant do over the phone for any account or service you have. ALWAYS call them if you have the need/desire/been asked to provide ANY information. Don't reply to emails, web links, people that have called you, etc.
