    iDon't - but droid does :D

Love the new Motorola ad, but iCan't figure out who specifically you're targeting, anyone have any ideas? www.droiddoes.com

The new device seems pretty impressive from what I can tell thus far...who knows, I might even come to own a touch screen phone in this millenium.

I just wonder if it will have an iTunes plugin

Nuvi phone is a piece of dung. A truly remarkable phone if they could go back in time and prevent aapl frome coming out with an iPhone several years ago

Droid has some neat tech that actually doesen't exist on other phones already

P.s. Is nuviphone a vzw product

No, it's AT&T. I just know how you are with GPS gizmos and thought you'd be drooling over that one.

I appreciate the concern unfortunately Garmin made me lose interest by taking WAY too long to bring a product to market that google maps and everyone else does for free.

This droid iphone fight is going to be interesting enough...sorry Garmin and RIM, you chose shitting timing to bring new products to market imo

I always find it interesting how small Apple's market share actually is in relation to the importance people place on competing with them. RIM sells twice as many BB's, and their market share is increasing as fast as Apple's.

It's an incredibly strong brand I guess...

Apple managed to take an immense volume of cellphone owners and turn them into data plan subscribers and all the things that follow that.

As far as the Motorola vs. Apple thing, there is some history between the two that brings a little more animosity to the table. It has been rumoured that Apple once tried to work with Motorola to bring an 'itunes phone' to the marketplace.
Mot said we'll do it this way, Apple said no do it like this and who knows what occurred. We do know there was a SLVR released sometime thereafter. I am not sure if either company was actually pleased with the outcome, but it was pretty evident that consumers weren't.

For those who may not recall:

Motorola SLVR L7 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Motorola SLVR L7 -- with iTunes
Motorola plans to release second iTunes phone. | Article from Chicago Tribune (Chicago, IL) | HighBeam Research

Personally I think Apple told Mot "fu you have no idea what you're doing with this concept we had, so please stop" and Mot said something like "you have no clue how to make phones so good luck" and the rest as they say, is history.

iPhone soon follows, but Mot still intent on keeping their brand everywhere couldn't focus enough on that marketplace.
Once Android came around it was very evident this was a chance to change all that. Since this is a make or break for the company's future in smartphones (IMO) it's not a surprise they are poking apple in the eye and targeting those people who love that phone, directly. Why do it silently? more buzz the better...if they fail, it will be on a grand scale anyways so why not invite everybody into the stadium.

I have been keeping a lot of attention focused on Android devices, hoping someone out there other than Apple can make something that bangs. So far I haven't been impressed, but if this device is 1/2 as good as they say it is I will be blown away.

Yep, Mot is in big trouble if this product fails.

I'd still like a killer touch that runs WinMobile but this thing might be close enough to get me to convert from carrying two devices (PDA and flip phone).
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

This should be close enough...it really is everything you need and more. I might consider handing in my new blackberry for one depending on the size...

ok probably not...but the droid will likely be my next work phone unless they spin the ATT version of it anytime soon. Then again, I have the droid on preorder now so..who knows what will occur

Depends on the Market. The numbers you are using are loosely correct if you are talking about Q2Y09 in the US.

What everyone forgets is that Nokia is really still the star player. Symbian owns this market globally.

IMO, once the iPhone got Exchange activsync, and enterprises start heading towards Exchange 2007, the BlackBerry is nothing but an extra bolt-on POS that no one wants to support. Why would you want to spend more money on a device that does less than an iPhone or WinMo device (app store speaking)? Especially when those devices can synchronize directly with Exchange without a BES and the licensing that goes with it?

Apple answered most enterprise requests with the iPhone configurator, which can set everything from wallpaper images to certificate security settings.

The singular function that was BlackBerry's claim to fame was over the air exchange synchronization. Microsoft has made it irrelevant by licensing ActiveSync to whoever wants it. Unless RIM pulls something out of their ass, they will be relegated to the single company that supports Lotus Notes in a few years.

i gotta say i own an iPhone, as well as an ATT tilt that currently has WinMo 6.5 on it and i really like... BUT i had android on it for quite a while and REALLY REALLY like that lol. the iphone is a bit easier for non techies to use than WinMo6.5 but not much more so than android.. .and android has many advantages even in day to day life
I seriously want to get rid of my heavily modded RC-51 Track bike to get a nice 98-01 VFR... i hope this doesnt mean im growing up...

I was curious, is the iPhone approved for use by the DOD?

Blackberry is still the only device I have that gets mail in realtime, as in - real world, realtime. Even faster than AS running 'as items arrive', it goes without saying it gets the same battery life as a WinMo AS device running "check every 2 hours" mode. You pay for their external servers and you get what you pay for.

I think we can expect to see BIS touching exchange soon enough, sans BES.

For me it's hardware vs software. BB's hardware is dead solid, simple to use fast, has a keyboard and switches that let me operate the phone almost blind, and the way they do things is smart.

They also have an app store, of course it doesen't have nearly as many apps, but most of what it does have is quality so I don't have to review 14 useless apps and I didn't have to crack it to run the one I really want.

I am not sure what RIM is doing about the Android movement, if they are they seem to be keeping quiet. If they aren't, that alone will be their death

p.s. You're the only one in this thread who knows what Symbian means Nokia might be a leader, but there is a reason I haven't used one of their devices in over 3 years.

Nokia is getting utterly slaughtered in smart phones right now. Their market share has gone from 40's to mid 30's, and falling.

Apple and BB are gaining marketshare, but BB is roughly double that of iPhone currently, and growing. For those of us who just want a solid device and a keyboard, BB is still it. (BTW, it doesn't work worth shit with G-mail, but then, what does?)

I have no vested interest in who wins this round of the fight, we have content in every one of those devices, I just find it fascinating how overrated Apple is. They are still a small player.

Maybe people like to drop the iPhone name to hitchhike on Apple's marketing...

Ok...I am a simple BB user...and of course I hate it. One of the reasons I stay with BB is because I can just transfer my hundreds of contacts from phone to phone just by plugging into my computer. Now all this android stuff is it worth switching to a different phone brand? I like the different functions of the Iphone...and keep in mind I am a BB user which has the comparative functionality of a rock. I am also on the Nextel aka the Next to Hell network so my options are limited. Please elaborate for the layperson on the significance of the android operating system.

You have a nextel bb that explains the crippledom.

Step one: leave nextel for a real carrier.
Step 2: Don't mistake sprint for a real carrier.

I used to admin the nextels and account at my old job from the time they had the raven brickphone till they got high and mighty...and they went from great to crappy. No phone is worth upgrading to if it is on that half network! I also don't think you'll see an android device on Nextel in the near term, they are all about keeping their stuff fairly vanilla so that the muni's will keep it.

    ok back to topic...

60% of ATT data traffic is from iPhones, from 2 weeks ago at CTIA in San Diego. For a device that didn't exist a few years ago, that is outstanding.

T mobile dark looks about your speed...start checking out with tmo folks in your area how the coverage is. Here it sucks, so I wouldn't consider it. Big red is the best with ATT following close behind, but not as thorough building penetration.

Currently ATT's 3g is the fastest I've used, when I can get concurrent packets at speed with it...
