OK guys, since I saw the D30 thread I thought I would throw this out there.
I need to (finally) get a digital camera. I am leaning towards a point-and-shoot, I really have no need for a DSLR. I am looking for some reccommendations, as long as it isn't sony.
Nikon had one that had wi-fi built in that I was lusting over briefly, but then it turns out the wi-fi is really kind of borked and not that useful.
This is exactly what I have and I love it. I have recommended this to family and they all bought them and loved them. I think they have a z850 and a z1000 now that are newer you might want to look at as well.
I have a Nikon Coolpix S5 (6MP). The S7 (7MP) just hit the streets for less than $300.
The big thing I was looking for was a camera that I could keep in my pocket and fall on (snowboarding) without it puncturing a lung and a fast startup speed to catch those pictures I kept missing. S5 has a .6 second startup from button push.
It ended up being so small I keep it in the arm pocket on my ACUs.
Most of the Canon or Nikon P&S cameras are pretty decent for casual usage. Save yourself some money and stick to the ones around 5-6 megapixels. ANything more than that and you're paying for numbers and hype generated by a marketing department. The Casio also seems to be nice but I've never used one.

I have over 7000 photos with my casio... It is a nice camera. Plus full 30fps 640x480 video... Great for using to photo/video the kids.
