How do I make video clips available to view?

I have a few questions. First of all I know very little about such things so speak plainly.

I have a 20 minute session saved to my computer and I want to take the first 2 laps and last 2 laps, and make them as some sort of an attachment for viewing on here. Do I need to download some sort of an editing program, or might there already be something on my pc that will do it? Then I need to know how to make it available to view.

Second JetB loaded a clip onto my desktop through media player but it's requiring a codec. AVI file or something but this is what’s missing: Intel IMA ADPCM (11) codec. I've did a search trying to download something but from the info I'm reading it seems this is not yet compatible with vista. Is this correct, or how do I download something that will translate the data? On this clip I'd also like to overlay the bike sound with music. Help

Explore the features: Windows Movie Maker and Movie Maker HD

It's a free editor - I've never used it so I can't provide much help there.

As far as sharing, sign up for a Youtube account, and upload it there.

Hey Scott, had the same issue with Etienne's video on my laptop (Windows Vista). It was trying to open with Media Player. I was able to get it to play by right clicking on the icon for the video and choosing open with...then choosing HP Quickplay which was already loaded on the PC. You might be able to choose a different player that would work without downloading a codec.

(The file was a .asf file)
As far as editing, I don't know either so.... :EARS:

btw, the video JetB took starts with Dave on the RC, a couple of laps following me, then Whip, YOU then whipper comes through waves and makes us all look silly.... :O) good video.

VLC should be able to play just about any video file out there. I'm not sure about what editor you'd need, depends on the file type.

VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player

Does yours have sound? That method does work, but no sound for me. I'll try the movie maker for editing. I take it when I get to that point and have sound I upload to the site like I would a photo?

If you can't do the editing in Windows Movie Maker because of the format, you could always use a video convertor like "Any Video Convertor" (that one's free), and convert the movie from .asf to any format, such as mpeg4, mpeg2 (dvd), avi, etc.... then the movie maker will be able to do the editing.

Downloaded "any movie maker" and moved the videos to there. After I hit "convert" and played through there still no sound on E's. I also downloaded "movie maker". I can't transfer either video. It won't let me copy and paste, and when I try to type in the file name it says "wrong name or "not found". I'm typing it as it is written in the other program. I could probably do it through you tube, but no one wants to watch 20 min of me basically going around a track basically by myself. I hate this crap.. I give up.

None of JBD's vids will have sound, as it wasn't working. You'll have to add music or dub in your own motorcycle sounds.

No audio makes sense. I've got the stupid thing all sounded up and cut down on movie maker but can't upload to the site because its an asf. Tried converting it through 'any video converter' and its all blury. So then tried running it through 'you tube' and the audio got shut down. About 3 hours of messing with this crap and I'm gonna throw this computer out the front door.

Take whatever song you want and rename the file to something random that doesn't have the title of the song or the band or anything like that and you can usually skirt around the copyrights on YouTube.

each clip is close to 20 minutes. So probably a little less than 1 gig?

That "any video converter" isn't any good. You have to upgrade to the pay one because I have everything converted over to mp4 but the program won't let me save it to a folder or a flash drive unless you pay. You can only view it in that format in that program. I did transfer it to WMV (or whatever?) file and uploaded it to the site but after previewing the quality sucked so bad I erased it.

If you wanted to get a cheap flash drive to put the raw clips on and mail them to me I'd run them through iMovie, and toss 'em back on the flash and send it back to you.

Hmm.... I have an old version of "any video convertor", rather than the latest version, and it lets me save and play in any format and on any video player. I use it for converting videos for my PSP, and it works for me...

I'm gonna give it another shot later before bailing just yet. Maybe I can find some good music in you tube. "I had it rolling to kick start my heart". I'm kinda old school like that. No Motley Crue in you tube.

I might just be retarted.. I'm not sure, but MrsSilver gave it a shot (after my 3 hours of pushing buttons and downloading crap failed) with no results either so..

Grr.. still trying. This makes no sense. I downloaded Prism Video Converter. (which is better than "any video converter") I transferred (again) to an MP4. It is stored on the computer as an MP4. I can watch it on the computer as an MP4. When I try to Import the file in Movie Maker it is nowhere to be found. I tried downloading different versions of movie maker and redownloading incase it didn't download right. I can pull it up all over going through the start menu, but in the same files it doesn't show up through movie maker. Seriously this is like a bad dream.

I was trying to avoid you tube so I could edit it and use my own music, but at this point I'm not sure if I can avoid it.

Are you sure you're looking for "All Files" when opening the file location? Just a thought...I know nothing about Movie Maker

Yes Yes! Saved, and it opens in movie maker as well. Is there any way you can cut it off at the 12:25 mark so there is a bit more footage? So I have from 12:25 to the end and repost? Then I can put music to it and repost.
