Hey T1 - I attended a NASCAR event

Actually truck series, but what's the difference? We went to the Kansas Speedway last weekend for my grandfather's 80th birthday. Not my first choice, but the weekend wasn't about me. You know I went in thinking that oval track racing sucked. Now that I've actually been to a race...

...I can heartily confirm that it sucks. Everyone sat around with earphones on, listening to the broadcast. Even the announcer said "My fortune for a battle!" during one commercial break. It was 167 laps of monotony. One guy led for about half the race until the pit stops started, then the guy who won led the last 20+ laps. If people couldn't drink beer there, the whole thing would wither and die.

But it's okay if you like it.

Yeah, not all races are created equal. Sometimes you get a dud. Or like formula 1 you always get a dud...

Most of the races I have been to are entertaining. Sometimes they do enter the doldrums, then I drink more beer and take pictures of ass-cracks around me... Ihave quite the collection now.

Re: Hey T1 - I attended a NASCAR event

The only interesting moments where when the #2 truck inexplicably spun the rear when pulling into his hotpit, pinning a crewmember on the wall. He ended up facing the wrong direction. A few laps later he was going through the gap in pit wall to get back to the garages and spun the rear around again, clipping pit wall. WTF?!

The only interesting NASCAR races, IMO, are Daytona and Talledega. Boatloads of lead changes, racing three cars wide, epic wrecks, etc...

Even though I couldn't care less about NASCAR, I still try to catch those races.

interestingly, those are the races many fans don't like watching because they are more monotonous...

My favorites are the short tracks.

How are 20+ lead changes monotonous? How are three rows of cars side by side and nose to tail at 180mph monotonous? How is the constant chess match of shuffling through the field using the draft to get up to the front monotonous?

What's monotonous is one car 30 seconds in front of another, who is also 15 seconds in front of the third place car driving around in circles for three hours.

I don't like the space 'em out and let 'em drive in circles of futility style of racing. I prefer to see them all on the lead lap and at least the first 12, or so, on the final lap actually having a shot at winning the race. The winner of most short track races is known 20 laps before the race is over. I don't want to see the lead car run away from the pack. Running away is for sissies. Fight it out to the bitter fucking end, baby!!

This is what the COT is supposed to be helping out with... from what I have heard so far, the car is still a bit aero tight.

Re: Hey T1 - I attended a NASCAR event

I noticed they weren't using that at Talladega last weekend. Is it just going to be for non-restrictor plate tracks?

It is just being introduced. They have it in 16 of 36 races this year. The first were the .5mi tracks and then phoenix which is a mile. It is on for Richmond this weekend too I think, which is a .75 mi track.

I can get the same thing (albeit more prone to wrecks) by getting on I-4 during rush hour and watching angry cubicle jockeys.

Correction: The only thing that sucks worse than NASCAR is the continued existence of Ben Stiller. Yeah, nobody can argue with me.

HA!

I didn't realize you were in Florida.

I-4 is NOT for the weak of heart. Well, and not for anybody without a death wish for that matter.

Last I was on I-4 I was in the passenger seat of my buddy's Mustang. I said, "Riding this shit on a bike is even more fun," and at that very moment a bucket full of nails and concrete chippings fell out of a truck and spewed itself all over the road about six inches behind his left rear tire. Love a well-timed mess.

That would be sweet! Have it set in some post industrial dystopia where the last driver to finish is executed before the frothing crowd and eaten slowly by the rest of the drivers gnawing away like hungry rats. That's some fucking incentive right there, my friends.

I'd buy a PS3 if they made that.
