    Wireless Keyboards

Do you wireless guys find your keyboards and mice occasionally missing keystrokes/clicks?

The little transceiver is 9.5" from the keyboard, with nothing blocking between, and it misses letters with annoying frequency.

I have a Microsoft Wireless/Laser Keyboard 6000 V2.0, and this $150 POS is getting danger close to becoming a target for the weekend.

    Yep.

Is it RF or Bluetooth? RF can and will have trouble because of interference. I've found Bluetooth to be a little more robust.

    Re: Wireless Keyboards

    Bluetooth is RF.

It is not Bluetooth. This is the best wireless I've seen that has the ergo shape I like.

Maybe I'll give it to our IT shop and look elsewhere.

Still haven't tried a wireless keyboard yet. But my Logitech mouse is as rock solid as any I've ever used. Never misses a beat.

    You know what I meant

Logitech makes some really good keyboards/mice, but Microsoft's stuff has a really good history also.

    Re: Wireless Keyboards

My Microsoft one worked well until the batteries died...can't find any batteries at work to replace them.

My Logitech wireless setup at home has worked great for a while now...the batteries have lasted much longer than the ones in the Microsoft set

New Energizer AAs, I've had this thing only a couple of months.

Judging by how much you post you're probably due for a new set of batteries.

I have a logitech dinovo edge. It uses Bluetooth. Other than not having a numeric keypad, it's an extremely stylish, nice to type, 2 months of battery before needing to recharge (it comes with a docking station that charges it).

It's super pricy as a keyboard, but w/o bragging, I got it for less than half price.

I agree, that's a very nice looking keyboard, but it's not the curved ergo set-up I like.

    Re: Wireless Keyboards

I play a lot of FPS games and wireless is not the way to go if you want 100% reliability. I've tried keyboards of many different brands and connections. Laser are the most reliable but cannot compare with a USB keyboard, IMO.

Ask your self how important is 100% reliability and how good you are at cable management... it will help you decide if you really want wireless. If so, laser is the way to go. Otherwise get a nice keyboard drawer for under the desk, if possible, and get a usb one.

It is the keylogger not keeping up

Just kidding I would figure signal strength or interference.

You are close with go batteries so I thinking signal strength is out. However just asking the obvious:
    No metal covering the reciever
No metal blocking the signal path
Interference could come from other wireless devices is more likely. Look around for cordless phones, wireless antennas, etc. eithr move your reciever away from them or if possible change the channel (most keyboards/mice have 2-3)

    Re: Wireless Keyboards

I can touch the receiver with my pinky, and the keyboard with my thumb of the same hand.

Only thing it could possibly be is my wireless router...

Look at your cpu utilization. I have found that when its pegged my MS mouse suffers.

I use a logitech RF K/M and it has worked well for many years now. Thinking of going with logitech blutooth. I think they have had the strongest encryption.

    Re: Wireless Keyboards

what else do you have near it? I have the wireless mouse 6000 I think (like 70$ at costco sometime last year, silver? generic puck like tx/rx?) and it wigs out if I lay my cellphone too close to it or if my corporate antivirus is being anal retentive.

If it's general 50ms latency (like you're hitting a rubber band to press the keys sorta) then it sounds like something transmitting near it thats a constant - wifi box could be a culprit, not a whole lot of shielding in them thar boxes...

My 6000 mouse only is spot on with my usb plugged in mouse. I have a dell BT mouse that is just as fast, and an old wireless MS mouse that definetely exhibits same symptoms as you.

i did find moving the 'puck' from desktop level, to the back of my monitor stand (so about 18" up off the desk, still horizontal) seemed to cure the stupid "your battery is weak" alerts I got constantly. I really think if it's too close it can be a bad thing...

    Re: Wireless Keyboards

I just bought a new Microsoft wireless mouse/keyboard combo (Laser 6000 v2.0). Mouser works well, but the keyboard definitely misses strokes periodically, which is irritating. I even moved the transmitter to within 6" of the keyboard. Some of the problem seems to be the sensitivity of the keys themselves (or lack thereof). If I bang the keys harder as I type, it seems to work better.

Yeah, I just read a review where someone else mentioned that.

I've been keeping the phone away and pounding the keys...does seem to be a bit better.

    Still...what crap.
