PS3 or Xbox 360?
My gal surprised me with a HD TV for my birthday. I've been a PC gamer for years and haven't played a console game since the original Nintendo.
MS is releasing the 360 Elite at the end of the month. What do you like about your 360 or PS3? How well do the wireless controllers work? I definitely notice a difference between a wired PC mouse and a wireless mouse when it comes to gaming. Is there a similar difference with console controllers?

Re: PS3 or Xbox 360?
WOW, was going to hold off getting one of these things until HALO-3 came out but, I think it is time. Thanks for the tip.
I like the X-box but like with everything else on this board you will get varied opinions. The one advantage of the PS is that it can HD right out of the box and that is good. HD as in playing HD DVD's. X Box you have to get an external drive but in away that is good to me. Last time Sony got involved in a media-medium they screwed the pooch. Anyone remember BETA? Anywho, I prefer the BOX over the PS-2.
Congrats on your B-D present.

I say go Xbox since there are better games out for it. I've never had any desire to use my gaming console as a dvd player so the Blu-ray PS3 doesn't really matter to me. If you want the Blu-Ray...that's really the only advantage for PS3 at this point.
Wireless controllers OWN! There's nothing better than not having to get off your lazy ass and push a button to turn the console on! Controllers won't have the precision of a mouse anyway so I doubt you'd ever notice it.

But then you won't have any High Def movie capabilities... PS3 is the way to go...
BTW, can the 360 act as a jukebox/video player/photo slideshow player like the ps3? The jukebox part at least has been very useful in the living room. The slideshow part is nice when family comes to visit to put the latest photos up on the 57" TV... more useful than I thought it would be. And the Blu-ray is very nice.

Yeah.........so?
Re: PS3 or Xbox 360?
I wish there was a company out there who simply made a video game console that just played video games.
You know, like back in the old days.
Oh yeah, and price it reasonably, like back in the old days.

the company is called Nintendo and the console is called Wii
original NES in 1985 with Super Mario Bros and 2 controllers was $199.99. with R.O.B. a Zapper, Duck Hunt and Gyromite it was $249.99
Wii with Wii remote, nunchuck attachment, and Wii Sports $249.99
seems Nintendo is still making exactly what you're looking for.

Re: PS3 or Xbox 360?
No great games....other than sports titles.
Maybe video game consoles will one day be like the car market. Just give me a completely bare bones PS3 that only plays video games and nothing else for $249.
Let all these other folks who want all these worthless bells and whistles pay for them.

I don't know what you're talking about, here's a game just for you http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=230056
there's also Zelda, Mario, war games like Medal of Honor and Blazing Angels. Spider-Man 3 and Mortal Kombat both come out soon. there's plenty of stuff other than sports out already or coming out soon.

Other than every other Medal Of Honor that comes out, I don't care for any of the games you listed.
Probably the age difference.

Yeah in two years they'll have a shitload like the 360 - cool! But in 2 years I can get it for 1/2 price, and there will be a better 360 out still for less $

Re: PS3 or Xbox 360?
I'm leaning towards the 360 Elite at the moment. Blue-ray isn't important to me or even HD dvds at the moment. I don't buy many DVDs, just rent ones now and then. My original Nintendo doesn't look too bad on this big screen.

To answer your question, yes. You can rip your cd's to the 360 harddrive, or if you happen to have a usb memory stick with some mp3's or wav's on them, you can just pop them in the usb port (front or back) and play them through the 360. Same goes for images. As far as HD, there is a HD player out you can plug into the 360 and watch HD Dvd's. If you have Xbox Live, you can also download movies (HD or regular) to rent, and tv shows. They have entire seasons available for a multitude of shows.
They occasionally offer things like music videos free. I have a cool Audioslave video in HD that I am waiting for a HD tv to watch. The 360 will also play regular Dvd's without having to buy a dongle like the original Xbox. Oh, and it can play video games as well...

Re: PS3 or Xbox 360?
It boils down to whether you want Blu-Ray movies and if you want any PS3 exclusive titles.
Those are the only "advantages" of the PS3, IMO.

Re: PS3 or Xbox 360?
I was talking to someone that worked at my local EB and he told me that the PS3 price is coming down since the Blue Ray is losing popularity and Sony made a gamble on that platform.

Re: PS3 or Xbox 360?
I have been very happy with my wii. I have only bought the Zelda game but I have downloaded a lot of the older nintendo games from the previous consoles. The wii is great for playing with other people but it seems to be lacking great solo games so far. A lot of people complain that the wii games arent realistic looking or whatever. I view video games a lot like cartoons. I don't want realism in them. I enjoy it when the coyote straps himself to the acme rocket and flies off the edge of the canyon and I enjoy games like Mario and Zelda over the WW2 simulation games.
The last roommate I had owned an xbox and that was a neat system for all the things it could do with storing music and stuff. Blasting aliens in Halo was pretty fun too. If I had to pick between xbox360 and ps3, I would go xbox for the $200 lower price and that halo will be on that system.
I can't read the xbox 360 elite link at work. Can someone summarize whats new about it and what the price is?
-
Done.
Re: PS3 or Xbox 360?
I still like playing the ColecoVision.

Donkey Kong, baby!!
That's when video game designers really knew how to make a fun game.

I downloaded Donkey Kong onto my wii. All of the old nintendo arcade and NES games are $5 each for the wii. Such a good value for so many great games.
