    Sniper Stuff

I did some cool surfing/time wasting today. Thought some here might be interested. I've got a Remington 700 in .243 so this was particularly interesting.

.300 Winchester Mag makes nice holes.

Of course the ultimate is still the 50 cals.

I think they said the .308 was the standard round. But yea, they've got it chambered in a bunch of calibers. Mine is .243.

I shot a .243 for the first time a few weeks ago. VERY light recoiling round, I see why it's so popular.

Here are the two I am much more interested in, the Mk 11 and 12 (I like semi-autos):

Yeah, .308 is cool but the .300 has an additional reach of 400 yards.

Precision rifles are fun, but not cheap. Here is a crappy pic of one I built probaly 10 years ago. It started life as a PSS in .308WIN but I sold off the stock and barrel and kept just the action. Badger Ordnance 20 moa mount with the bolts drilled and tapped out larger to 8-40 screws, Mark 4 rings holding a Leupold Mark 4/M1 10x scope. Barrel started out as a Shilen #7 stainless blank in .308/10 that I turned the O.D. taper down a bit, cut to 24", cut a recessed muzzle crown and chambered to fit Federal Match. Free floated the whole thing in aluminum pillars into a McMillian A3 stock with Marine Tex. It was one sweet shooter. I miss having time to mess around with stuff like that. Someday I'll have a house big enough for a machine shop in the garage

I mean, that's *the* gun. I found this last night. Pretty pricey stuff. Prices I found on that scope are ~1k.
