NSX canned because of recession

its a shame really it would have been the first time the NSX got a motor it truly deserved but with the global economy I can't say I'm surprised and HONDA will be the one car company that comes out ahead in the end... they don't wait around for the bubble to burst.. they know how to stay on top in the car industry unlike some others around here *cough -big3- cough*

Age of bike + rider = 78 !!
Wonder what this will do to the prices of the old ones?

It's not my fault
In some ways I would like to see it on the road, but I am a few pay grades short of ever getting something like that.

They are already way high... a '91 in good shape still pulls big dough.

A '91 can be found in the 20k range. A '97 (increased HP, 6 spd tranny) can be found for mid 30's, and the last gen (HID's) I've seen them dropping into the low to mid 40's.
For reference sake, I've been monitoring prices of them for a decade now, and almost bought 2 at 2 different times. One was a '91, the other a '94, could have bought either for $30k even, but that was almost 5 years ago.

I'm wiry
I'm no NSX enthusiast, but I was a bit put off by this version. Sure, it seems like a fire-breather and all, but it's no NSX. If this one comes back around they should call it something else...or at least put the motor in the right place.

I have to admit, until we owned the S2K I never got why people were in to the NSX.
I still think it's an ugly car, but I bet it is fantastic to drive.

I've always really liked the looks of the NSX. I've always heard very good things about the interior and I remember one review that said, "the sound coming from behind you was like a cd titled Perfect Car Noise."
It's always intrigued me even though it doesn't have extreme performance numbers.
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

not having huge numbers but still being seen as a true competitor for over a decade spoke how good of a car it was.
I'd still love to take one out for a spin.

The key to honda's success in the sportscar market with "underpowered" cars is the fact that they don't aim to build a car that puts down certain "numbers" just to sell cars. They build and develop their sportscars (NSX, S2K, Type R and Si models) with one goal in mind. THE TOTAL PACKAGE and Driving experience. I'm sure most bench and magazine racers wouldn't get it cus, "hey they just don't compete cus thy don't have big numbers" when you look at how they stack up on paper.
Those who have actually owned or driven any of these cars on a regular basis can attest to the fact that what these cars don't have in power they make up for in SOUL! The power and handling ratio on these cars are what really make them a GREAT driving experiance.

Autocar - Honda axes high-end models
Further cuts in model programme hit Acura harder.

Development of a new V8 engine for the rear-drive cars has also been stopped. The new Honda V8 was seen as the wrong engine at the wrong time, and it was opposed by some Honda engineers who viewed it as too big, heavy and unnecessary. Honda product planners have also had trouble figuring out how to make the engine cost-effective.

The hype is low.
Supercharged V6 or twin-turboed V6 FTW!

Shit, it'd be great if they'd do a performance turbo-4. They make a turbo model in the Acura line, the RDX. Take that engine, tune it differently, and drop it into the Si. For their automobile lineup, they really just announced that they will make nothing performance based. It will all be cookie cutter grocery getters. Sign of the times I guess but it's been almost 10 years since they went outside THEIR box. (RC51 and S2000).

Honda isn't in to turbos, that would be a big departure.
Honda is out of performance. Honda, FOR THE LOSS!

They were in F1 with Williams. And the RDX has one. In fact, a lot of mfr's are starting to use them to add power because of the turbo's efficiency versus a large displacement engine. Bimmer is starting to go the direct injection w/ turbo route and other mfr's are following this path.

They do turbodiesels and I suppose the electric motor in hybrids is a kind of turbocharger!

Gimme a sub 1000Kg subcompact with a turbo aquatrax motor and a slick little 6-speed. That'd be fun.
