Friggen Ipod died! Apple Sucks!

Am I the only guy here that has killed off two ipods? Wait I take that back I didnt kill them they died on me!

This last one, an Ipod 80g barely lasted a year and month since we bought it. The prior ipod brick seemed to have lasted substantially longer.
Replacing drives just doesnt seem to save that much over buying a new one.

I am on the fence about giving more money to apple.

here's a hint, it's not them - it's you, I suggest solid state electronics, or consider selling the vibrating bed?

Did I strike a nerve SSG? I was starting to feel like Jose. LOL

I never slammed it around. It was cushioned by the extra padding that is seen as a sign of wealth in other countries.... my gut, held in place by my jacket. Maybe it was the cbr's suspension? It did die on my ride into work.

Now if Tom Cruz would come out in support of Apple I would say I have seen it all and the ulitmate fanboy.

Perhaps you are right... Maybe its time to go with a flash memory based ipod? Whats the largest size?

I'm done with iPods.

I'm on the search for an alternative and now thinking about a combination music machine/GPS solution. If not, there look to be some good alternatives.

Be careful with the Apple critique... the bond runs strong among many!

Pioneer Inno...especially if you have any interest in XM.

I've beaten the crap out of mine skiing, snowmobiling, motorcycling, running, etc....

It has bee dropped, dented, and used so much that the buttons are worn.

Zero problems.

I've actually never had one die. Mine goes to the gym most days too. I did leave my first on a plane though.

"Hers" goes running 6 days a week, and despite her electronic black thumb, it's still working too.

Sheez I go one post without emoticons and I come off like a prick

Nerve, maybe - I've never had probs with my 'pods, but I just had my 8gb and 16gb (brand @#%% new) jacked out of my hotel room at my own wedding. WTF is that

I'm not an apple fanboy...but despite my loss in about 400$ in ipod's, I had a new nano before I went back to work after. I love the things, and never had a prob with any one of them. I even have a 30gb Video from 2005 that has spent most of it's life being bounced around my truck dashboard, in the sun, etc. and it's still doing just ducky. I will say the only thing I did do is buy an iskin evo3 case for it, that is the one thing I always do faithfully for all the pods. They go in and never leave the shell

I have a 1st gen Nano that I found while working one day. It was in a nice little case but I'm pretty sure I clipped it with the edge of my tire (or maybe 3 tires). I just had to replace the screen. hasn't failed in the 10-11 months I've had it.

I had my first ipod brick last me a couple years until i got the 3rd gen nano, memory upgrade was the only motivating factor. Still not an issue with this one at all. Only considering an upgrade again because my music collection keeps growing and I hate picking and choosing.

PM Abtech though, he's the ultimate iPod fanboy...

I am downgrading my 80gb ipod to a 60gb by slipping in a seagate lyrion drive (5yr warranty). Taking this 6th gen ipod apart was not as easy as my 4th gen. Drive was ordered. Will update when it all goes together.

Unless you leave your shipping address so I can send you a reel of 2" tape, don't bother . . .

Must be pretty wide tape if all you need for an album is 2"

I see you are geometrically challenged as well as time confused . . .

A "reel" of 2" tape would indicate a tape width of: (you guessed it) 2 inches. At 30IPS, the standard 2500' reel lasts about 15 minutes, but allowing for alignment tones and editing room, 12 minutes is closer to the norm.

doesn't sound very portable. you should think about upgrading, they have this new technology called cassettes. They're like mini reel to reels but you can carry a bunch of them with you.

Why are you sending your Ipod to the gym most days? Is it fat? It might benefit you if you tag along...

Portability isn't a criteria. It's about fidelity . . . Although I do have a couple of cassette recorder/reproducers including a Nakimichi Dragon.

Fixed it!

Had this ipod classic 6th gen in silver that had its drive die a month out of warranty. I bought a CF Flash adapter to ZIF IDE and a CF Flash card. Found out the hard way that cheapy 32gb cards dont work. I had to trade away the cheapy card to my sister for a 8gb SanDisk Ultra II Hi performance. The instructions are here

Still might return the cheapy 32gb cards. I still have a 4th gen ipod to repair. If the cheapy 32gb doesnt work on that then at least one of these chips gets returned.

I figure this would really benefit the bikers here. I do think that it was riding a bike that seems to kill my ipods as I only use them when I ride.

BTW this order turned out to be back ordered indefinetly and was cancelled by the vendor. The vendor was listing it both on ebay and on the web. Pissed me off and had me waiting for 2 weeks!

Supposedly a few grams weight savings. The real benefit is extended battery time. Since I completed this a few hours ago I will have to report on battery time later.

I do feel much better about not rattling around another drive to death by going solid state.

I gotta say I am still impressed with my nano 16, the battery lasts almost the entire workweek with no recharging till Thurs or so.

I wonder if a zif-sd adapter work work in an ipod?

If my 5th Gen 30GB was any kind of barometer, you won't have to wait long
